400 ISIL Militants Killed In Int'l Alliance Attacks -- Kuwait News Agency

AMMAN, Sept 23 (KUNA) -- At least 400 militants of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) were killed on Tuesday in air strikes launched by the US-led international alliance against terrorist sites, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said.

Another 300 militants of the ISIL, Al-Nusra Front and other militant groups were also wounded in the attacks, the SOHR said in a statement.

My Comment: The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has been consistent in reporting casualty rates for the past few days .... US-led strikes kill 50 Al-Qaeda fighters in Syria on Tuesday: Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (Economic Times/AFP).  As to the 400 number .... it appears to be a compilation of casualty numbers from all of the air strikes that have occurred since the start of this campaign. As to these numbers if they are true the leadership of the Islamic State must be in shock. These casualty numbers are extraordinarily high, and will severely degrade Islamic State military operations. Unfortunately .... confirmation from an independent source is next to impossible in the Islamic State control parts of Syria and Iraq.

  1. More depends in this article than a Retirement Center.
Depends if the number is true.
Depends on who is in the number.
Depends where the numbers occurred etc.
All ISIS has to do is wait out the initial 3 to 4 weeks. After that with no progress on the ground you'll start seeing coalition members start cut back involvement and even de facto quit.
Already the Administration is asking for more money. Many people say there is no public support for US military involvement, this true and false at the same time. What the US public is tired of is non success. In other words "if you're going to do it, win it, if not, don't go".
The Democrats have trapped themselves by their previous anti-Bush propaganda. By portraying the surge and it's aftermath as failure, they've put the bar pretty high for themselves to declare success.

  2. It's important to note the the "Syrian Observatory for Human Rights" is a single guy in an apartment in London who spent 2011-2012 downplaying the role of islamists in the uprising.
