Islamic State Drags Obama Back Into Mideast Quagmire -- Samia Nakhoul, Reuters

(Reuters) - American-led and Arab-backed air strikes carrying the fight against Islamic State from Iraq into Syria have dragged Washington into a new Middle East war - exactly the kind of conflict Barack Obama spent his presidency trying to avoid.

No one doubts this dramatic escalation presages a long conflict that could spill into neighboring states and that U.S. air power alone cannot win.

Analysts who have watched Islamic State take parts of Syria and seize territory in Iraq believe it may be possible to contain the group but it will hard to dislodge it.

My Comment: No debate in Congress. No vote on authorizing to get involved in another war. No public debate from the media/pundits/academics/etc. on getting involved in another Middle Eastern war. No demonstrations from the anti-war movement. Nothing. Just an escalating mission creep into a sectarian conflict that has been ongoing since the birth of Islam.

There is no debate.

The Republican party is no more.

Donations to the Republic National Party (RNC) from ordinary people have fallen off. They have been replaced by the Chamber of commerce and corporate interests.

The Republican party is a shell, an animated corpse. It died. Think Body Snatchers or Sacculina carcini.

The "Tea Party" is where it is at. There are various Tea party organizations not all of them good. Some of them have been infected.

Small groups of individuals can take over organizations, suborn the principals and use them as fronts. There are many such groups. Basically in person who has enough money and is smart enough can do this. I guess what makes something underhanded is how forthright they are about their methods and goals.

A person could look at these people as the analog in the political/economic world what Sacculina carcini is to crabs.

Be that as I may i will be be voting Republican. All the while I will be voting & encouraging the Tea party when I can. I figure that public opinion matters more to the Republican Party than the Democrats. It did in 2007. That might change too.
