US, Japan, S. Korea Sign North Korean Intel Pact

US, Japan, S. Korea Sign Pyongyang Intel Pact -- Voice of America

The United States, South Korea and Japan have agreed to share classified information concerning nuclear threats from Pyongyang.

According to the Pentagon, under the trilateral pact that went into effect Monday, the U.S. Defense Department will be the hub for that intelligence.

The pact will effectively link bilateral information-sharing agreements that already exist between the countries.

A spokesman for South Korea's Defense Ministry said the countries won't have to divulge all of their related classified information under the new pact. Each will determine what access is granted.

I was in South Korea during the 1988 Olympics. I asked about the cars (none were Japanese), and I was told that if I was to drive a Japanese car in South Korea, it would be destroyed within the hour.

When I went back to China after the Seoul Olympics, I noticed that all the cars that my Chinese hosts were driving were Japanese. Being the mischievous person that I am .... and not at all diplomatic .... during a banquest hosted by the province I asked them on how can they drive a Japanese car after what the Japanese did to them during the 1930s and 1940s. The look of shame that the Premier of Fujian Province gave to me when I mentioned it is something that I will never forget .... he profusely apologized, and I in turn profusely apologized because no disrespect was intended.

Yup .... old deep wounds do take a long time to heal.

Then there is my dad .... no German cars in his household .... so naturally .... my first high-end car was a BMW. Sighhhh .... he never stepped in it. My mom ... another story ... she loved being in it.

And these wounds are not that old. The former Japanese Collaberators dominated the Police, Army and the Military Dictatorships in South Korea until the 1990's.

Yes, this happens with depressing frequency.
