WNU Editor: I have a bad feeling that they this "sniper battalion" have the men who can give the proper training .... Up to ten former French soldiers 'have defected to Islamic State (The Telegraph).
Nope, At best, these are Cold War Soviet pattern snipers, not the Western Military/Snipers.
ReplyDeleteThese guys fit in range and ability, up with US Squad Level "marksmen", not the two man ( sniper and spotter), Scout/Sniper Teams common in NATO.
200 meters, that speaks for itself. I'm not impressed, I'd be careful, but not much more than normal.
ReplyDelete500 meters is Marine Marksman,
Delete2475 meters is the current documented US/NATO record.
But it's not just about distance. NATO Doctrine Scout/Sniper Teams act as forward deployed eyes and ears in the Enemy's rear, or as Overwatch on Patrol or Assault Units, act in combination with other assets of the Air Land Battle Groups, and identify and aid in the neutralization of high value targets, from individual commanders to relief and reserve columns.
