BBC: Ukraine rebel leader Zakharchenko 'to raise 100,000 men'

WNU Editor: With the economy all but frozen in eastern Ukraine .... there are hundreds of thousands of men who are just standing around doing nothing. Nine months ago this vow to have a 100,000 army would have been laughed out by everyone .... today .... it is a very real possibility. I also expect the Ukraine government to make the same announcement to match this rebel mobilization.

  1. Do you think this will lead to fullscale wars with tens of thousand in battle for cities or are the numbers just for show?

If Ukraine also makes the same announcement and USA decide to arm the conscripts with decent weapons, I fear for an very huge and uncontrolable escalation. Even the possiblily of Russia taking Kiev or splitting Ukraine in two using the Novorssiya borders from the 20th century.

Also a bit off topic but Belarus, how does it go with their economy? I have heard that Lukashenko is in a very safe position and that they will fight out the sanctions since they have been sancitoned even before the Ukriane crisis began, is that true? If yes why does the west think that sanctions will work against Russia if it can't work against Belarus? If the answer is that Russia support Belarus and the west think sanctions against Russia might lead to the collapse of both why havent they tought of China, since China will support the Russian economy if neccesery. And I dobt USA has the strenght to wage ecnomic war against all 3 to topple their ecenomies.

Sorry if this post got a bit long, just a lot of thinking, would be nice with some feedback.

  2. I have mentioned more than once in this blog on how much I despise the President of Belarus. But he is safely secured by a very vigilant police and security apparatus.

As for Belarus itself .... the entire economy collapsed a few months ago when the Belarus government imposed the most draconian anti-free market rules that I seen in my lifetime in eastern Europe. Even in Moscow there is talk that the Belarus government should change .... but in view of the Ukraine crisis and hostilities against the West .... this is just all talk.

Sanctions do have an impact on a country's economy, but sanctioning China and Russia at the same time is not going to happen.
