Reuters: Ukraine under pressure from currency fall, gas supply threat
KIEV/MAKIYVKA, Ukraine (Reuters) - Ukraine came under increasing economic pressure from a collapsing currency and a threat to its gas supplies from the Kremlin on Wednesday, just as a long-awaited ceasefire took hold in the east.
As the truce appeared to be coming into force, the Ukrainian army reported no combat fatalities in the past 24 hours, but the news did nothing to halt a currency slump that forced the central bank to ban most trading before intervening to prop up the hryvnia.
WNU Editor: As the Ukraine economy continues to crater, I expect to see more of this .... Anti-government protest in downtown Kiev escalates on the streets of Kiev (ITAR-TASS), and more images like this.

Puts paid to the Russian Terrorist lie.
"IMF staff are in close contact with the National Bank of Ukraine and stand ready to assist in designing measures that will address excessive and temporary imbalances in the supply and demand for foreign exchange," an IMF spokeswoman said in a statement released in Washington.

Isn't it funny how the IMF invites themselves in to lend money to countries that can never pay it back thereby making future generations debt slaves forever..
Where is the Ukraine's 42 tons of gold that was shipped out on the first night of the coup?
That would at least put a floor under the UAH ..
Funny how all our interventions end up with the countries losing their gold ..

Jay .... it is even worst than that. Night-time ambushes, beatings, threats, etc. .... these Ukrainian volunteers are not wanted. The long term problem for Kiev is how do you maintain order in a region when 80% of the people who live there want you out .... bottom line .... Kiev will need to maintain a heavy security presence .... which in turn will only aggravate the situation even more.

ReplyDeleteMost interesting for me, was the Kiev Post writing an article that note's the Junta is not wanted in the Rast, and the admission, that they are in fact, fighting fellow Ukrainians.
That run's counter to the Ukraine Propaganda and could result in the SBU shitting down the Post and jailing it's staff.
Jay .... in the past few weeks Kyiv Post has surprised me with some of their articles .... on some stories they are definitely contradicting the official line. But here is the funny part and why the Kyiv Post will probably be left alone .... everyone I know in Kiev and elsewhere are under no delusions on who and what the people in the Dombas are .... that is why the Kyiv Post knows that they are not going to shock any Ukrainian with this report .... because they all know it is true.
ReplyDeleteEveryone in Ukraine also knows that claims from the Ukraine government that the rebels fighters are all Russian soldiers are just bogus .... there is Russian help and volunteers .... no doubt about that .... and there are shipments of military supplies .... but the mass majority are people who live there, and they are now just beyond fed-up with the leaders and policies that continually come out from Kiev with each new government.
Where this story hurts is in the narrative that people like Poroshenko are trying to project to the outside world .... he knows that he can no longer fool the people in Ukraine .... but leaders in the West .... that is a different story.
