Thousands of people were forced to flee from their homes after a 5ft-long unexploded Second World War bomb was discovered under a former pensioners centre in London.
Evacuated residents in Southwark, south east London, showed 'Blitz spirit' today as they remain stranded in a leisure centre for hot food and drinks after being made homeless overnight.
A major operation is under way to remove the 1,000lb device, which was discovered by builders under the old site of the Southwark Irish Pensioners centre yesterday morning.
WNU Editor: These ordinances are incredibly dangerous. Years ago when I was visiting family in Kiev one of these bombs were discovered a few blocks away .... it makes you realize that even though the war is over .... people can still die decades later.
