New York Times: Hillary Clinton Used Personal Email Account at State Dept., Possibly Breaking Rules
WASHINGTON — Hillary Rodham Clinton exclusively used a personal email account to conduct government business as secretary of state, State Department officials said, and may have violated federal requirements that officials’ correspondence be retained as part of the agency’s record.
Mrs. Clinton did not have a government email address during her four-year tenure at the State Department. Her aides took no actions to have her personal emails preserved on department servers at the time, as required by the Federal Records Act.
It was only two months ago, in response to a new State Department effort to comply with federal record-keeping practices, that Mrs. Clinton’s advisers reviewed tens of thousands of pages of her personal emails and decided which ones to turn over to the State Department. All told, 55,000 pages of emails were given to the department. Mrs. Clinton stepped down from the secretary’s post in early 2013.
Update #1: Experts: Hillary Broke the Law -- Weekly Standard
WNU Editor: She is trouble. This is a serious violation of the law (see the above video) .... now the question is .... will she be held accountable for it. It also makes me wonder on who else has secret email accounts in the Obama administration .... and what are in those emails. On a side note .... General and former CIA Director Petraeus is being investigated by the US Justice Department for doing exactly the same thing. Politically .... in the Democrat field there is probably a growing realization that maybe she is not a lock for the nomination .... so do not be surprised if in the next few weeks we are going to see movement there.

ReplyDeleteBut why would they?
After all, the British gave up trying to assassinate Herr Hitler after they decided he was more valuable to the British war effort alive than dead.
Which is not to say that an email won't be leaked to the public or the information used behind the scenes. So little Miss Hillary is not out of the woods yet.
Get a law degree, join the right party, play smash mouth politics, be ambitious, brazen and ruthless and you too can be a player.

The law does not apply to the politically connected ..
She will lie her way out .. saying things like "a simple oversight" or it's better to just let things that happened in the past remain in the past and move along ..
I completely agree jj.
ReplyDeleteI would imagine she is well connected and quite powerful in her influence. I personally absolutely detest the woman and think she's a snake, and as much as I would love for her to get the full brunt of this, she won't...
It will be but a passing breeze for her.
WNU Editor,
ReplyDeleteWhile I agree with b on Mrs. C,

This will shape up to a "Little Blue Dress", partizanly important, but no real political scandal,
"
Well, this might be the explanation: The new regs apparently weren’t fully implemented by State until a year and half after Clinton left State.
Here’s the timeline: Clinton left the State Department on February 1, 2013. Back in 2011, President Obama had signed a memorandum directing the update of federal records management. But the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) didn’t issue the relevant guidance, declaring that email records of senior government officials are permanent federal records, until August 2013. Then, in September 2013, NARA issued guidance on personal email use."

Sadly, there isn't a lot of journalism practiced in the US.
It may have been legal, but it was not smart.

Would you let this lawyer handle state secrets much less take the phone call at 3 AM?

ReplyDelete"There is another element here that is being glossed over. If HC used only one account for ALL of her e-mails she had to have violated the law on protection of CLASSIFIED material. On the face of it, lots of her communications to others would have met the rules for classification. State has two e-mail systems, one for unclassified "material and one for classified materials. I doubt this will ever come up.

Aizino,
ReplyDeleteIn Government business, people only use private e-mail to escape oversight, so yup, in the kindest view of her term as Sec State, it was stupid,
But it was the least of the stupid things she has done.
As for "classified" vs. unclassified, the US Government has a very nebulous definition. If they are out to crucify you for exposing failings, corruption, lies, High Crimes and Treason, then even previously unclassified material, available in the public realm, can be reclassified, and you can be prosecuted for re-publishing a doc available to the public on the Library of Congress server.

ReplyDeleteThey got Al Capone on tax evasion.
If this is how they get her to bow out, so be it.

ReplyDeleteGet a good lawyer show that it was previously published many times, pray that you get an honest jury, and you may still be effed.
Got nothing.
She won't bow out, no more than Jeb would.

Hillary Clinton ran 'homebrew' computer system for official emails with servers in her Chappaqua home
ReplyDeletehttp://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2978825/Clinton-ran-homebrew-computer-official-emails.html
Using her own email was not a simple decision of someone who was not informed.
She thought about this a lot.
I thought this story was going to die yesterday .... but more news continues to come out. I will be posting an update on this story later today.
