Stephen Collinson, CNN: Obama and Netanyahu: A clash of world views, not just personalities
Washington (CNN)The disconnect between President Barack Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is about a lot more than bad personal chemistry.
Their relationship, which will be played out in all its dysfunctional glory during Netanyahu's visit to Washington this week, founders on a deep ideological divide and a sharply conflicting world view.

*Israel needs the US more than the US needs Israel*
ReplyDeleteMight sum up the current Obama administration stance towards Israel, and not a stance I'd agree with.
Amazes me to watch the Obama administration absolutely demolish their relationship with their allies.
Tensions rise between Whitehouse and Israel should be the headline.
ReplyDeleteYou are correct Phil .... I have corrected the title.
ReplyDeleteKudos WNU
ReplyDeleteD.Plowman,
ReplyDeleteIf we change your statement to read as follows: "the US needs Israel more than Israel needs the US." The statement would be correct. The Us needs Israel to act as a buffer between it and Islamic terrorists, the states that support them and for the Us to supply it with valuable intelligence. Frankly Israel would be better off without America right now. America would NOT be better off without Israel.
If as WNU linked to a report that the Obama Administration threatened to shoot down any Israeli planes attempting to deal with the Iranian nuclear weapons program is correct, Mr. Netanyahu needs to point this out in his address before Congress!!
An Iranian nuclear weapon is an existential threat to Israel and to America as well. The USAF cannot deal with this program or the Russian backed defenses. To attempt to use the USAF in this manner, would be simply impaling the USAF and any other American military assets on this and the facilities would not even be scratched.
The Israelis on the other hand have the piloting skills, the leadership, the necessary intelligence, and the necessary equipment to take care of this. For the US to attempt to intervene to try and stop Israel, would be unsuccessful on the part of the Americans but it could slow things down enough to allow the Iranians a chance to prepare and thwart the attack. In other words such polices on the part of the Obama Administration place both of our countries in grave danger. I think Congress and the American people need to know about this.
Phil and WNU,
I pray you are right about the tensions being between only the Whitehouse and Israel being on the rise as opposed to between America and Israel being on the rise. (While I did not see the original headline, I'm thinking it probably said something similar to that. If I'm wrong, I apologize.) If so, this would seem to imply that once the persons in the Whitehouse can be changed the relationship between us and our most important ally can be repaired. I pray the United States survives long enough to make such a change and that the change made is the right one.
I meant the US needs for Israel to supply it with valuable intelligence.
ReplyDeleteO I'm well aware of how much US needs Israel.
ReplyDeleteBear in mind that is not my opinion, as I already its not one I share.
I feel however that is the stance coming from the Obama administration.
If their stance was that "the US needs ISrael more than Israel needs the US" we would not see the absoloute horrendous attitude coming out of the Whitehouse concerning Israel and the alleged threats being made.
