Top U.S. Admiral: Chinese Submarines Not As Good As Ours

The Ohio-class ballistic missile submarine USS Tennessee returns to Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, Georgia in this February 6, 2013 handout photo. The Tennessee and 13 other Ohio-class submarines are critical elements of the U.S. nuclear deterrent but the oldest has been in service for 33 years and the end of the fleet's useful life of 42 years is in sight. Every nuclear weapons delivery system in the U.S. arsenal ? the so-called triad of bombers, ballistic missiles and submarines ? will have to be replaced in the coming 30 years. IBTimes: Chinese Submarines Not As Good As Ours, Says US Navy Official; Expresses Concerns Over South China Sea Activities

China’s aggressive expansion of its submarine fleet has been commented upon by a U.S defence expert. Vice Admiral Joseph Mulloy, deputy chief of naval operations for capabilities and resources, told the House Armed Services Committee on sea power that China has been expanding the number and geographic areas of operation for its submarines. However, from a quality point of view they are not at par with the U.S submarines.

Update: US naval official overstated strength of PLA sub fleet: report -- Want China Times

WNU Editor: A few days ago Vice Admiral Joseh Mulloy mentioned that the Chinese submarine fleet now outnumbers the U.S. fleet .... Top U.S. Admiral: China Submarines Now Outnumber The U.S. Fleet. I guess someone told him that he better clarify his remarks. But what is being left out of the discussion are the trends .... and all the trends do not look promising .... China getting three to five times as many submarines each year compared to the USA (Next Big Future).
