RGC Quds Force chief Qassem Soleimani said the world will be surprised by upcoming events in Syria.
NOW Lebanon/Business Insider: Iran's military mastermind promises a 'surprise' in Syria
Iranian Revolutionary Guards Quds Force chief Qassem Soleimani has vowed that upcoming developments in Syria will soon “surprise” the world, Al-Quds al-Arabi reported.
“The world will be surprised by what we and the Syrian military leadership are preparing for the coming days,” the state Islamic Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) quoted him as saying, according to the London-based daily.
The Quds Force commander’s comment comes after a recent visit to Syria where he toured the Latakia region, which has come under threat from rebels after they seized the nearby Idlib province last week following months of sweeping victories against the regime.
WNU Editor: Oh oh .... this tells me that Iran is about to escalate and expand their involvement in the Syrian conflict. I will not be surprise if in the coming weeks we will be reading reports of Hezbollah moving even more of their forces into Syria followed by thousands of "Iranian volunteers". It looks like the Syrian civil war is about to explode with a major Iranian intervention that will all but guarantee a response from Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and the Gulf states.
Bring it on. Turkey and saudi arabia with quatar has already opened pandora's box.
ReplyDeleteThere is a whiff of desperation in Qassem's and others statement.
ReplyDeleteI agree James. As I said yesterday .... the dynamics is changing. Rhouhani repeating his commitment to the Syrian government was also a surprise .... it appears that he was forced to do it to quell the rumors.
ReplyDeleteWNU Editor,
ReplyDeleteWe will see in the next few weeks, if there is a " surprise".
There could be.
Jay .... what concerns me is that Soleimani never issues idle threats. But you are correct .... we will know in the next few weeks.
ReplyDeletehes done well so far when he pops up quds leader dont be surprised if iran sends in 250,000 that be there surprise they cannot afford to lose syria at any cost syria must not fall for iran
ReplyDeletejay what would a surprise be from iran in your opnion be
ReplyDeletePETER,
ReplyDeleteIt's taken the SAA and Hezboallah a "long" time to learn and fix tactics to retake ground. The "different" jihadist groups all fight differently. The absence of certain equiptment, and the losses of soldiers and Commanders have made holding an institutional " memory" of these tactics difficult.
If I had to guess, the "surprise" could be something as simple as a fixed, mixed Hezboallah/SAA group, as small as 15-20,000, armed , equipted and trained, that would "carry" the tasks of retaking ground, while the rest of the SAA and Heboallah forces, " hold", while setting up and training local self defense groups to take over the task.
youve hit the nail jay just read that 20,000 iranian, iraqi, lebonese fighters are to launch counter attack have entered idlib
