Bunker buster bombs like this one are the biggest thing on Israel's weapons shopping list recently -- but they're not the only thing. Photo source: U.S. Air Force.

What if they held a war and everybody (in the Middle East) came? Lately, that seems to be what we're seeing happen in the Middle East.
They've got Houthis running amok in Yemen, with Saudi fighter jets screaming overhead, and Iranian warships trying desperately to get into the mix. Freedom fighters battling Bashar in Syria, and fighting ISIS, besides. More ISIS in Iraq. And even more ISIS in Libya. Al-Qaeda, meanwhile, is... everywhere.
And into this mess steps Israel.
WNU Editor: It looks like someone is expecting a war soon.
Or simply sending a message to Iran. Might only be a paper sale.
ReplyDeleteWNU Editor,
ReplyDeleteDuring the 2006 Lebanon War and the 2008 Gaza War, there was a " pause" in the air campaign because the IAF ran out of munitions. Muntionions had to be expedited from the US, and in 2006 it was so "bad" that the US stopped ops in Afghanistan and Iraq, as the ammo for those ops, had gone to Israel.
I remember during the 1973 war Israel was almost out of ammunition. It looks like they do not want a repeat of history.
ReplyDeleteWNU Editor,
ReplyDeleteIn 2006 the basic problem was that it took way more strikes to take out a target than the IAF Planners had forecasted, some of the identified Hezboallah bunkers were never taken out despite multiple strikes.
In 2008, the plan was to bomb Gaza into submission, but that never works.
The care and feeding smartbomb stockpiles need to stay smart suggest that the IDF is planning to go somewhere this summer.
Back to Gaza, or into Lebanon?
My money is on Lebanon.
ReplyDeleteNeither Gaza or Lebanon.
ReplyDeleteGood point James. Your comment hit the spot. I was thinking of what is the conventional thinking .... Israel always goes to war against Hamas or Hezbollah every few years. But we are no longer living in that world. The conflicts in the Middle East are now involving multiple nations who are fighting via through proxies .... but could eventually turn into wars where they are fighting each other directly. This massive purchase .... which is unprecedented .... tells me that Israel is now thinking of a big war .... on a level of 1973 or 1967. Syria is probably the focal point of such a conflict .... but it could involve everyone .... Hezbollah, Hamas, Syria, Iran etc.... .... and then there is the possibility of a direct Saudi Arabia - Iran conflict .... that war will involve everyone.
