YNet News: Erdoğan: 'Liberate Jerusalem' from the Jews
Turkish President continues trend of drawing parallels to historic Muslim conquerers as elections spell losses for AK Party.
Just one week before upcoming parliamentary elections in Turkey, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and officials in his Justice and Development Party (AK Party) found a unique way to try and secure a victory at the polls by calling for the "liberation" of Jerusalem.
"Conquest is Mecca, conquest is Saladin, it's to hoist the Islamic flag over Jerusalem again; conquest is the heritage of Mehmed II and conquest means forcing Turkey back on its feet," said Erdoğan in a speech on Saturday in Istanbul before millions who appeared to celebrate 562 years since the Turks captured Constantinople from European Christians.

WNU Editor: His party is trailing in the parliamentary polls .... hence the focus on the Jews .... even though almost every country on Turkey's border is now engulfed in war.
Come and get it!
ReplyDeleteYour comment as WNU Editor pretty much sums things up. With all the problems Turkey and the nations around Turkey are having this man chooses to focus on the Jews!! Its interesting to see that American leaders are not the only world leaders who have misguided priorities.
ReplyDeleteTurkey is a member of NATO. This means America is treaty bound to defend Turkey. Also, Turkey would be treaty bound to defend America but I wouldn't trust them to honor this. The United States is supposed to be allied with Israel yet the United has no treaty obligations to defend Israel as it does with Turkey.
Unless the US moves to quickly distance itself from Turkey and such comments, if I were Israel, I'd look seriously at reevaluating the relationship with the United States.
