Reuters: Putin out to seize control of Ukraine, says Kiev defense chief

The West should not drop its guard over Ukraine, the country's defense minister said on Friday, saying a build-up of Russian forces in support of separatists showed President Vladimir Putin was bent on seizing control of the country.

Stepan Poltorak spoke alongside visiting Canadian Defense Minister Jason Kenney as Kiev military chiefs reported intensified attacks by separatists in the east, despite a ceasefire, with another Ukrainian soldier killed.

"There is a threat still because the military groups of the (separatists)... and Russian troops continue to build up their forces, bringing additional equipment and ammunition and of course their plans are not peaceful," Poltorak said.

  1. Russia is the world's most powerful military. If it wants to seize Ukraine or any other country in the region, there's nothing the US or anyone else can do to prevent it. While this does not mean that we should necessarily do anything and everything they may want or that we should capitulate to any and all things they may request, sound foreign policy will require recognizing Russia's superior position and acting accordingly.

Not quite sure what the Canadian Defense Minister is doing in Kiev. Should this thing go as bad as it could it is not going to be Canada or Western Europe who are going to bear the brunt of a Russian military reprisal it will be America who will bear this. As such, American officials should be keeping this in mind. Perhaps they should be asking the governments of Western Europe, Canada, and others to back off of their support for Ukraine or they will lose American support.

Speaking of the "swing", it of course takes a genius like me 5 yrs to learn something that should have taken only a month. I picked it up while learning how to pitch at mid distances and it translated very well up into my longer irons.

You have obviously strayed from the path of righteousness and the power fade. To the range with you, confess your sins, transgressions, and poor address posture. There you will find absolution and possibly exhortation.
