Photos, shared widely over social media, have shown purported Russian troops in Ukraine.

Radio Free Europe: Ukrainian Bloggers Hunt Down Russian Soldiers In War-Torn East

Since conflict broke out in eastern Ukraine a year ago, Russia has adamantly denied any involvement in the bloody standoff pitting Ukrainian government forces against separatist rebels.

President Vladimir Putin has dismissed as "nonsense" claims that Russia is fomenting unrest in the region by sending soldiers to back the insurgents.

In Ukraine, however, a motley crew of investigative bloggers is hard at work to debunk what they denounce as a brazen Kremlin lie.

"The official stance of people in Russia is: 'We're not there but we'll be victorious,'" says blogger Anton Pavlushko. "The task of Ukrainian bloggers is to prove there are Russians in Ukraine."

WNU Editor: I have also looked at these social media postings .... on both sides .... and I have been underwhelmed. If there were 10,000 Russia soldiers in Ukraine .... we would be overwhelmed with pictures, comments, complaints .... you name it and it will be all over the place even with Moscow's restrictions. But what we see are a few postings here and there .... and that is about it. Is there Russian special Forces in Ukraine .... I have also said yes, and probably some of them have posted what these Ukrainian bloggers have found .... but is it in the numbers that some in the West and Ukraine are claiming .... no .... and in a certain way, these Ukrainian bloggers are proving that point.
