Editor's Note

Setting up my new computer system and re-installing my software (and data) is going to take far longer than what I had thought. The problem is that I need to retrieve some data from my dead drive, and I am using TestDisk to get my latest stuff. Unfortunately .... at this rate .... I am going to be busy for the next few hours. It looks like blogging will only return later tonight. :(

Mr WNU, if your freeware TestDisk is not doing it for you, I highly recommend Kroll Ontrack.

Unfortunately you will have to get a warez version: http://themobilebay.org/torrent/8967183/Ontrack+EasyRecovery+Enterprise+v11.0.2.0+Incl+Crack+%5BTorDigger%5D#comments

Is the drive totally bricked or is the files not accessible on just the computer?
If the disk files are not accessible, you could try to extract them by connecting your crashed pc too you'r new one with a USB cable and try to move the files over using BIOS? Very unsure if this will work, it depends on both pc's and how damaged and inaccessible the drive is. Just my 5 cents, hope it helped.

Something like this is what I have mine mind: http://www.geekyprojects.com/data-recovery-2/how-to-recover-your-files-when-windows-wont-boot/ You need a exsternal hardrive though, but if you have that and you'r 2 computer it will fix itself :) Good luck and hope you are not missing some files.

WNU,
Remember to plug it in. Electricity is funny about that.

Yes Phil. That is my project at the end of the year.

Thank you for everyone's advice on what I can do to get my lost data. TestDisk has given me about half of what I lost. I will use the other programs suggested to obtain the other half probably during the weekend.

James .... very funny .... grrrrr ....
