Islamic State Now Boasting That They Have Surface-To-Air Missiles

Nancy A. Youssef, Daily Beast: Oh, Great. Now ISIS Says It Can Shoot Down Aircraft

ISIS is already plenty dangerous on the ground. New photos show it threatening targets in the sky, as well.

The self-proclaimed Islamic State released photos showing its fighters using surface-to-air missiles in Egypt’s restive Sinai, the terror group’s latest effort to strike at the biggest advantage its enemies hold: airpower.

That ISIS could potentially shoot down aircraft near the Israeli border, where the Israelis frequently launch strikes, was especially worrying, experts said.

“It’s one of those things that could turn ugly very quickly. The danger with ISIS is that they would love to provoke an Israeli reaction. It would put Egypt in a bind and further raise their status in the Middle East,” said Daveed Gartenstein-Ross, a senior fellow at the Washington, D.C.-based Foundation for Defense of Democracies.

WNU Editor: The nightmare scenario was always  the possibility of one or more radical groups in the Middle East gaining access to surface-to-air missiles. It now looks this scenario is being played out right now.

  1. With the Israelis, ISIS had better be careful, they play by a slightly different set of rules.
