WSJ: U.S. Seeks More Troops From U.N.

The U.S. is appealing to Europe, Australia and Canada to deploy more U.N. troops

The top U.S. military officer called on representatives of more than 100 countries to step up assistance to United Nations peacekeeping, but stopped short of saying how Washington would raise its own contribution.

Gen. Martin Dempsey is the first chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff to address a U.N. gathering, a sign of the Obama administration’s heightened focus on peacekeeping and how it can further American interests.

President Barack Obama is expected to unveil a new commitment when he leads a summit on peacekeeping in September during the U.N.’s 70th annual general debate.
