The U.S. Wants To Deploy Drones To North Africa To Monitor The Islamic State

Wall Street Journal: U.S. Wants Drones in North Africa to Combat Islamic State in Libya

Washington seeking permission to use a base in a neighboring country

WASHINGTON—The U.S. is in talks with North African countries about positioning drones at a base on their soil to ramp up surveillance of Islamic State in Libya in what would be the most significant expansion of the campaign against the extremist group in the region.

The establishment of such a base would help eliminate what counterterrorism officials described as one of the last and most pressing intelligence “blind spots” facing U.S. and Western spy agencies. Washington and its allies are seeking to contain the expansion of Islamic State beyond Iraq and Syria, where a U.S.-led military campaign against the group is already under way.

“Right now, what we are trying to do is address some real intelligence challenges,” a senior administration official said. A base in North Africa close to Islamic State strongholds in Libya would help the U.S. “fill gaps in our understanding of what’s going on” there, the official added.

The quest for a base represents an acknowledgment that the extremist group has managed to enlarge its area of influence even while under U.S. and allied bombardment in Iraq and Syria.

They love the drones. Wait until the US has foreign drones in its airspace and then they will want worldwide restrictions on entry into that arena of terror.

They love crossbows. It is so cowardly to use a standoff weapon. It is unmanly. The crossbows is the devil's weapon and the Popes had injunctions against its' use. Everything should be mano e mano. Isn't that what the 9/11 hijackers did> They killed all 3,000 people mano e mano one at a time? they also gave them fair warning and they met those 3 thousand people on a hazeled field.

(I think the real problem is that there might not be enough hazel trees. that must be the reason for all these suicide attacks and drones.)

What was it that Patton said? "I want you to remember that no bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor, dumb bastard die for his country."

Standoff weapons: If you have them you use them. especially if the public is not much interested in conducting a proper war with boots on the ground because of idiots like A.N.S.W.E.R. and other vermin.

The US already has foreign drones in its airspace. Besides no one really cares about the US opinion on this except to do the opposite of what America wants. In fact in foreign countries folks are paid big money to find out what America wants, what America does not want, what would make America happy, what would p!aa America off, how to maximize the effect of p!ssing America off, and how to avoid making America happy. Anyone who assists America either by accident or on purpose is fired and their families harmed beyond measure. As such, no one really wants to help America nor would they care if America tried to restrict drones.

As for A.N,S,W,E.R. these same vermin are making it very difficult if not impossible for us to defend our borders. Anyone who seriously suggests such a move is branded as "racists" and worse by this group along with the media and these groups work to destroy them. If it is up to such people, not only can we not commit "boots on the ground" to fight an existential threat, we cannot even secure our borders to fight this threat. While I've stated elsewhere, the "boots on the ground" to fight our enemies are not available, by redeploying our forces and monitoring certain groups, specifically Muslims and Mexicans, we'd at least have a fighting chance of defending our country. Unfortunately A.N.S.W.E.R. and these other vermin will not even allow this common sense measure.

Obviously, drones can only exist in a permissable airspace.

Either they are stealthed effectively,a nation does not care, or they have no airpower to shoot it down.

I know of no foreign drones in American airspace. There might be some cartel drones every now & then making a reconnoiter, but I have a hard time seeing a foreign drone loitering for hours at a time say 200 miles past the border.
