Sputnik: ‘Too Early’ to Discuss Agenda of Possible Talks Between Putin, Obama
Discussing the agenda of a potential meeting between US President Barack Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin in New York next week is not possible as the talks are not confirmed yet, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Thursday.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Wednesday, The New York Times reported, citing unnamed US administration officials, that a meeting between the two leaders could be held on Monday or Tuesday during the UN General Assembly.
Peskov added that it was too early to discuss the Syrian crisis as the agenda for a meeting that may not occur.
WNU Editor: When U.S. - Russian leaders meet .... the preliminary groundwork, itinerary, what is to be discussed and agreed upon, even the closing statements .... this is usually all done months before the leaders meet. In this case nothing has even been discussed. The New York Times first broke this story .... Amid Fresh Tension Over Syria, Obama and Putin Seek to Meet (NYT) .... but this looks more to me like a White House leak stating their desire that they want a meeting. Mind you .... some in the Russian media (probably leaked from the Kremlin) are advocating the same thing .... Time to Reconcile? Why Putin and Obama Should Finally Meet (Sputnik).
