The Guardian: South China Sea: Beijing 'not frightened to fight a war' after US move
State-run media in belligerent mood after USS Lassen challenges Beijing’s territorial claims in disputed Spratly archipelago.
China is not afraid of fighting a war against the United States in the South China Sea, a state-run newspaper with links to the Communist party has claimed.
Twenty-four hours after Washington challenged Beijing’s territorial claims in the region by deploying a warship to waters around the disputed Spratly archipelago, the notoriously nationalistic Global Times accused the Pentagon of provoking China.
“In [the] face of the US harassment, Beijing should deal with Washington tactfully and prepare for the worst,” the newspaper argued in an editorial on Wednesday.

The U.S. Liberated China from Japan in ww2 have the Chinese forgotten that... These bad times were in if there ends up being a war between these two nations. Also if they go to war I think the most of the world would boycott Chinese goods than thier economy would be junked... Just sayin
For years, the Japanese did a lot of damage to China and America only came into the war when attacked. They "liberated" China when the bombs were dropped and China gave up the ghost. Since then the US has thwarted China's attempts to bring Taiwan back into the fold because it provides a nice kick off point for the US in the region. Also the US support for Japan has frustrated China's desire for revenge. Don't forget about Korea where the US ruled the skies until China, with Russia's help rather quickly developed the world's third largest air force and US planes began to fall.
Yes the world would boycott Chinese goods, well maybe not the whole world, but it would take a while before America was able to ramp up production. The satellites would go down first and America's reliance on electronic would be a disaster for the cell phone population.
And of course China would charge a really large, perhaps overwhelming interest rate on the loan the US would need to finance the war.
Unfortunately for the world the de-industrialization Of the US and NATO pretty well guarantees going nuclear, once the reserve stockpile is gone.
Lets hope not....
Technically it was the Soviets that liberated Manchuria.
