From The Guardian: The dropping of a barrel bomb in the town of Darayya is captured by a man filming close to the explosion site. The footage of the helicopter releasing a bomb and two subsequent blasts was posted on Facebook by the activist group Darayya Media Center, which states the attack near Damascus was carried out by the Syrian regime on Wednesday
Those are not "barrel bombs", just regual ones. Mi-24 was designed to carry regual bombs, and those machines also did the sane in other wars. The bomb was probably a type of FAB or similar smaller bomb, up to weight of maximum ~500 kg. There are also other footages that show similar bombarding by the same helicopter in the same area, there are videos of one, two and even four bomb being dropped simultaniously.
ReplyDeleteBefore somone link these helicopters to Russia, let's make it clear that the area being targeted is a South-West suburb of Damascus, so called Daraya, just at the limit of the maximum range of the helicopters, but it's unlikely to use such asset for this operation in this range or even at all. Other than that as far as I know the variant in the video have different weaponry than the Russian variants brought to Syria. Russian ones have the 30mm fixed gun on it's side, while the one in the video have the smaller 12,7mm unfixed variant.
