U.S. Wants To Expand Its Military Operations In Iraq. Iraq Says 'No Thank-You'

USA Today: U.S. looking at expanding role on ground in Iraq, Syria

The Pentagon is considering plans that would place U.S. advisers closer to ground combat in Iraq and Syria in a move that could amount to a major escalation in its war against the Islamic State, a senior defense official told USA TODAY.

The potential move reflects growing concern at top government levels that U.S. military operations in Syria and Iraq are not making sufficient progress against the Islamic State. The official, who is familiar with the plans, was not authorized to discuss the possible changes publicly because no decisions have yet been made.

The options under consideration include placing U.S. advisers alongside local combat units in Iraq and embedding a small number of U.S. advisers with Syrian forces fighting the Islamic State, the official said.

  1. WNU,
Did you catch the two guys with the Dale Evan's cowboy hats at the end of the video. I was obvious they were asked to step out of the frame and you could tell they didn't speak the local language.

  2. WNU,
I wonder when that video clip was actually made? Now that I think about it, I may have seen it before. One other observation in the video where the troopies are behind the berm looking very warlike, there's a cowboy hat guy right behind the guy in the foreground and you can see some of the stock of his rifle. It is obviously right out of crate.
Oh yeah, the formation of troops they showed really bolstered my confidence. These guys are going to fight ISIS?
