The Telegraph: Libya warns it could flood Europe with migrants if EU does not recognise new self-declared government

Breakaway government in Tripoli issues veiled threat in response to West's refusal to accept their legitimacy.

Libya has issued a veiled threat to send "hundreds of thousands" of extra migrants to Europe if Brussels does not give official recognition to its self-declared government.

Officials say they could hire boats to send large numbers of African migrants across the Mediterranean, massively adding to the numbers already reaching Europe's borders.

The warning was made by a spokesman for Libya's General National Congress in an interview with The Telegraph in the Libyan capital, Tripoli.

The Congress took control of Tripoli last year after fighting against forces loyal to the internationally- recognised House of Representatives government, and is not recognised by the European Union as Libya's legitimate government. A fortnight ago, both factions also rejected the terms of a United Nations-brokered peace deal.

WNU Editor: These threats are very real. Over the years I established many close contacts in Africa .... and in the past two months many of these friends and contacts have warned me that the word is now out in Africa that Germany is willing to accept any and all migrants/refugees .... that the borders are now open. Last month I posted in this blog that my closest friend in Kenya told me that some of their family members were raising money to fly into Germany in order to claim refugee status. Well .... they did just that 2 weeks ago .... claiming persecution and requestion status. For most Africans ....  who do not have money .... their route will be through Morocco/Spain or crossing the Mediterranean .... and there are millions who want to escape poverty to what they hope is a better life in Europe .... especially young males. Is Europe ready to absorb millions of Africans .... many who uneducated and from a culture that is 100% different from Europe's .... I doubt it .... but I do know that if Europe does not close down its borders, this flood of poor and destitute people is just starting.

Update: 1 in 3 immigrants to the U.S. is now from Africa .... African immigrant population in U.S. steadily climbs (PEW Research).

Update #2: German Chancellor Angela Merkel is blaming climate change for the current migrant crisis. This is utter ____.

  1. Update 2 just says emigration will increase as rising sea levels flood low lying coastal areas and drought and seasonal unpredictability make food more scarce. Not controversial thinking at all, it's all happening right now.

  2. Ropestuff .... I have been hearing these warnings for decades. The best one is from Al Gore who predicted in 2006 that New York City will be underwater in 15 - 20 years. http://www.forbes.com/sites/larrybell/2012/06/26/rising-tides-of-terror-will-melting-glaciers-flood-al-gores-coastal-home/

I have yet to meet a refugee or migrant who has said to me that they left their country because of the weather ... and I have dealt with or advise scores of these immigrants/migrants over the years. They leave because of poverty, a political/economic culture that is corrupt, and a deep desire for a new start in a new place.

As for German Chancellor Merkel climate change excuse .... she is looking for an excuse to cover her own actions that have resulted in this crisis.

In my many travels around the world I can say with a great deal of confidence that the big problem is not man-made global warming .... the problem has been and is the man-made local environmental catastrophes that are occurring in places like Africa, parts of the Americas (Haiti is the probably the worst case), and many parts of Asia. Case in point .... when I was visiting Kenya years ago, I was doing the climb at Kilimanjaro and I mentioned to the guide on how long will the snow-cap last if man-made global warming continues. I will never forget his response .... he completely contradicted what was (and still is) being said in the West .... "its not man made global warming that is causing the snow-cap to disappear, it was the idiots who chopped down all the trees around Kilimanjaro for fire wood that quickly destroyed the cooling impact that these trees were giving to the mountain".

  3. You make good points. I know l'm not going to change your mind about climate change, and you know you won't change mine, haha. I found this article and it has been in line with other studies I am seeing. Maybe it hogwash but I trust what the scientists tell me.

  4. Ropestuff .... climate is always changing .... living in Canada we both know that. The debate has always been what impact has man made on it. But the link that you have provided is actually making my point .... regional policies in the Middle East have led to drought, migration, and destruction of its environment. Its hard to believe that less than 2,000 years ago much of the Middle East was not a desert .... but a forest .... even filled with lions, elephants, and other exotic animals. But deforestation over the centuries has made it what it is today .... a barren desert .... and yes .... producing a society that is in every ways fragile and unstable. Are greenhouse gases the cause of this .... no. This problem developed (and grew) well before the development of man-made manufactured greenhouse gases.

Yemen is my current poster child on how mismanagement of their resources has made it the basket case it is today. I still find it astounding that given the choice between having drinking water or using water for Khat production .... ... the Yemenis have chosen Khat. Has the water crisis led to the instability and warfare in this country today .... probably .... but blaming it on man'made global warming .... no .... the fault lies in Yemen's stupidity and greed.
