Time: WHO Declares Zika an International Public Health Emergency
The World Health Organization declared the spread of Zika and an associated birth defect an international public health emergency Monday, freeing funds to combat the disease.
“This is an extraordinary event,” said WHO Director General Margaret Chan at a press conference Monday. “It poses a public health threat to other parts of the world and a coordinated international response is needed.”
Chan cited the pattern of the disease’s spread, the lack of a vaccine, and the large global population of mosquitoes that can carry the virus as factors that contributed to the declaration.

If you want to have a comprehensive idea of what bioengineering is and what can and can't do .
ReplyDeleteYou don't have to look too far away.
This is a possibility that we have to consider viruses that can be engineer to develop in an G.M.O.Host like mosquitoes .somehow escape from a lab in Galveston Texas and suddenly shows up in Brazil (population control) maybe ?
This is one of the things that freaks me out .I am very skilled warrior and I know how to fight but biological weapons are an enemy that you can see doesn't have remorse do not care about how old are you waht color you are or what religious beliefs you have it will kill you end of the history.
Zika virus has been " known" since the '50's, but because it doesn't kill adults, ( flu like symptoms) and was contained to a narrow belt of "Brown People", it wasn't a priority, or a cure or vaccine profitable.
DeleteIt's carried by adeis mosquito's, of which there are 8 species, and they have been listed since the late '70's as one of the most invasive species on the planet. Once limited to a narrow tropical belt, they are now found world wide, on every continent except Antartica, (as far as we know).
Globalization didn't just offshore good jobs to Third world hell holes, but the cheap, bulk shiploads of products brought back invasive species and Third World diseases with every ship and cargo container.
Brazil is an "epicentre", not because Zika kills adults, but because of the degenerative effects on human embryo's. The simple solution, is that as an adult, if you have Zika, you don't have kids, but that's not a possibility in a nation where birth control and abortion are illegal.
Jay,
ReplyDeleteHIV is a much sexier virus. More has been spent on it than should be if you look at spending per death.
It sucks up a lot of oxygen in the room.
Also I resent you tone. My spouse is a brown person.
Zika is quite possibly, sexually transmitted as well. There is a case in Spain where the wife had picked up the virus in Africa, but her husband had stayed home. He's become infected as well.
