China Developing A Warship To Surpass The USS Zumwalt

New American: China Developing New State-of-the-art Warship to Outperform the U.S. Navy's Best Destroyers

In yet another indicator of China’s rapid military progress, the Chinese are hard at work to develop a new battle cruiser, the “Type 055,” which will be as advanced as the ultra-expensive, Space Age-looking USS Zumwalt – but will be much more heavily armed.

The new Zumwalt-class DDG-1000 guided missile destroyer, of which the first of three vessels scheduled to be built is now undergoing sea testing preparatory to being integrated into the Pacific Fleet, is a triumph of state-of-the-art military technology, it features a stealth design, carries a payload of up to 80 guided missiles, and can even mount brand new rail guns and laser cannons. Because of its enormous cost ($7.5 billion per ship at latest estimate), however, Congress capped the number to be constructed at three.

WNU Editor: Details are sketchy, but the Chinese are definitely building something.

  1. The Chinese are building a lot of ships, for the Navy and Coast Guard, the Coast Guard Cutters are Destroyers just painted white and I suspect that all their ships cost about a 1/4 what we build our ships for. "Quantity has a quality all it's own".

  2. And the Western consumer is paying for China's military binge.

  3. Yep, however, I'm not so sure it is the "Western" consumer per say so much as it is the "American" consumer. That is unless the "West" is as heavily dependent upon "made in China" as the United States is.

We (The United States of America) could do more for our national security and economic interests by doing the following than anything we are currently doing. 1.)streamlining regulations thus making it more cost efficient to manufacture in the United States and 2.)renegotiating these ridiculous trade and defense agreements we currently have.

The deal maker has promised to do this and to shut down the EPA which would be excellent places to start. Maybe he can get elected as POTUS or whoever does get elected can do this.

"Patrolling" in the South China does not seem to be an action that can possibly end well. It risks a military conflict with a stronger military power than us and we are currently heavily dependent upon them to supply us with manufactured goods. Currently we need "made in China" more than China needs "sold to the USA." All of this can be changed with sound policies. Unfortunately we are sorely lacking in this area.

  6. Sure, this new ship might somehow be better but it just looks like a regular old boring ship whereas the Zumwalt looks really badass...

  7. Cyberwarfare capabilities and anti-ship waepons have to be considered. As such, China would lkjely win a military conflict with America, at lesst a conventional one. In the event of a non conventional fight, the Chinese will have the Russians and probably others backing them.

Even if I'm overstimating Chinese abilities while underestimating America's, it definitely won't take 20 years for China to catch up. I do hope POTUS and his team are not getting such Pollyannish advice. In fact, if America continues it's current policies, the country will not exist in 20 years. In contrast, China will.

Bottom line: Ruusia and China are the world's top military respectively, it's going to be this way for the foreseeable future, and if nothing alters the current trends the gap is only going to get larger. Furthermore when the dollar looses it's role as world reserve currency this gap will only accelerate assuming the Rusdians possibly working with the Chinese don't do a quick decapitation strike against America before it gets to that point.

Good outcones for America are still possible but policies must be conducted based upon reality and not based upon what we wish reality is. Russua and Chiba are the most powerful natikns on earth and will remain so. Position ourselves accordingly. I'd suggest looking for ways to add value to these powers. Perhaps we might even turn them from foe to friend with such an approach.

If Canada is dependent upon made in China like America is, Canada has a vested interest in this as well. It seems confrontational policies such as patrols in the South China Sea have the potential to hurt Canada too.

Americans tend to view Canadians as tgeir best friends. I think this applies to many in keadership as well. When we see Canada supporting certain policies, we tend to as well. Perhaps the Canadian government can send a delegation to perhaps talk some sense into some of America's leaders. Even if the leaders refused to lusten, it would get the attentikn of the American people who might then find the courage to address their leaders knowing their friends have their backs.
