The Islamic State Is Now In The 'Selling Fish To Car Business' To Raise Funds

Reuters: Islamic State turns to selling fish, cars to offset oil losses: report

Islamic State earns millions of dollars a month running car dealerships and fish farms in Iraq, making up for lower oil income after its battlefield losses, Iraqi judicial authorities said on Thursday.

Security experts once estimated the ultra-radical Islamist group's annual income at $2.9 billion, much of it coming from oil and gas installations in Iraq and Syria.

The U.S.-led coalition has targeted Islamic State's financial infrastructure, using air strikes to reduce its ability to extract, refine and transport oil and so forcing fighters to reportedly take significant pay cuts.

Yet the militants, who seized a third of Iraq's territory and declared a caliphate in 2014, seem to be adapting again to this latest set of constraints, in some cases reviving previous profit-turning ventures like farming.

  3. I remember my Grandfather, who fought and hated the SS, saying at the time of the collapse of the Soviet Union that the "fangs will come out". He believed the world, most especially Europe, needed communism, whether anyone liked it or not, to repress fascism. "Stalin knew what to do with them; just like we did in France and Belgium" is what he said.

Now, all across Europe, and indeed, in it's Islamic form, fascism is on the loose once again while Nazis (closet or otherwise) and their sympathizers occupy high office in so-called liberal-democratic states all over the "western" world --- the relationship between fascism and liberal democra(ts)cy/capitalis(ts)deserves much more attention---.

It is not hard to understand why there has been such a strong reaction to the coup and right wing ascendancy in Kiev and the west from eastern Ukrainians, Russians, and not a few others in Europe -- some of whom have traveled to the Donbass to fight. It is, once again, sickening to see governments that we support through our taxes and/or participation in so called "democratic" elections, support and run cover for fascism.

Instead of pulling down statues of Lenin or building monuments to the victims of communism (barf), we need laws against fascism, in all its forms (religious, racist, nationalist etc.), to be passed and ruthlessly enforced.

  9. Only international fascism (i.e. communism) will work right RRH?

If you take the same techniques and scale them down to a smaller group such as a nation or a race. well that just won't fly.
