ABC News: North Korean Newspaper Endorses 'Wise' Donald Trump Over 'Dull' Hillary Clinton

Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has received his latest endorsement from an unlikely source: North Korea.

Official state-run North Korean newspaper DPRK Today ran an editorial today praising Trump as a “wise politician” and “far-sighted candidate.”

“The president that U.S. citizens must vote for is not that dull Hillary but Trump, who spoke of holding direct conversation with North Korea,” the editorial said.

WNU Editor: More fuel to the fire for the anti-Trumpers. But politics aside .... this looks like a major reversal for North Korea on an earlier Donald Trump suggestion. It appears that North Korea is now hinting that they are open to Donald Trump's earlier suggestions that he is willing to talk directly to North Korea .... My advice to Donald Trump .... do not take the bait.

  1. This conflict is inherently between North and South Korea and they are the ones who will need to solve it. We quite foolishly inserted ourselves into this one back in the early 1950s and now cannot seem to extricate ourselves from it.

I think the North Koreans are grasping the reality that Donald Trump will probably be the next US president and are acting accordingly. With that said I'm not sure what the utility in meeting with Mr. Trump would be. Furthermore I'm not sure why he would even suggest it.

So they meet with Mr. Trump. He doesn't have the power to commit the South Koreans to anything and POTUS faces significant problems in the US. As such, there isn't time or resources to spend acting as a mediator between the two Koreas.

Perhaps a meeting with POTUS and his team might resolve any outstanding issues between the US and North Korea but it will NOT do anything to actually end the conflict between the two Koreas as this is a conflict between them that can only be solved by them. However, with the issues between North Korea and the United States resolved perhaps North Korea could/would trust us as an honest broker to help the Koreas reach a peaceful settlement that works for both of them.

There seems no reason for South Korea to not trust us. As such, solving our differences and reaching a peaceful settlement between the US and North Korea might go a long way toward us being able to help the parties reach an accommodation. Perhaps it is along these lines that Mr. Trump is thinking.

Finally, we need to realize that should hot war ensue south Korea even if fully backed by the United States cannot win such a war. The best that can be hoped for is to make North Korea's inevitable victory pyric enough that they would not consider the attack in the first place. Frankly, I see no way South Korea has a fighting chance against North Korea unless they nuclear arm themselves.

If there is some way we can help them here, perhaps we should. This way we can extricate ourselves from this situation that we foolishly got into back in the early 1950s.

  2. I admit I may be completely wrong about the military analysis, however, I do think this is not one where we really want to find out. The only way to "know" is to actually have the war. As such, it would be better not to "know."

I DO NOT want to see us pulled into yet another conflict on behalf of someone else. As such, the top priority of POTUS should be extricating ourselves from most of our military commitments outside of the United States. This way we can have the money to invest properly in modernizing our armed forces and the forces will be properly deployed to give them the best possible chance at defending America.
