Daily Caller: Vietnamese Communist Leader Says US Anti-War Activists Helped Their Victory

In the weeks leading up to Memorial Day and President Barack Obama’s scheduled trip to Vietnam, a prominent Vietcong communist leader privately thanked American anti-war activists for helping defeat the U.S.-allied government in Vietnam in the 1970s, saying protest demonstrations throughout the United States were “extremely important in contributing to Vietnam’s victory.”

For Vietnamese guerrilla leader Madam Nguyen Thi Binh, who sent the private letter from Hanoi dated April 20, “victory” meant the communist takeover of South Vietnam. The letter addressed veteran American anti-war activists who gathered in Washington, D.C., at a May 3 reunion of radical “May Day” anti-war leaders.

The Daily Caller News Foundation obtained a copy of the letter at the meeting.

WNU Editor: I first read up on this story in a Russian publication a few weeks ago .... but it is only now that someone in the U.S. is posting this story. Here is an easy bet .... no one in the main stream media is going to touch this story .... especially on Memorial Day. As to what is my take .... I was too young during this time to follow the war, but later .... when I was old enough to ask questions about the Vietnam war .... many old Soviet hands credited the anti-war movement and a hostile mainstream press for helping them and their Vietnamese allies to stick-it-out (even though many had wanted to end it) and to win the war. Viet Cong Leader Nguyễn Thị Bình's letter and thanks is just another confirmation of that.

  1. Too bad it took 3 million plus Vietnamese and 50 thousand American lives -- which really spurred the whole anti was thing -- before it ended. I've worked with a handful of Vietnam war vets. Only one had regrets a out ending/losing the war. The rest were just goddamned happy it was over.

The protests started in 1963 to 1965. That was probably before even 5,000 or 10,000 American soldiers had died.

If you read the 1st pages of Sun Tzu, you see that the Soviet strategy of infiltrating American society was the correct one. It is the gift that keeps on giving. I give you RRH.

      Headline reads:

!!!SOVIET SLEEPER CELL UNMASKED ON POPULAR NEWS BLOG FORUM!!!

Long Standing Secret Plot to "Bore Within", Sap and Impurify Our Precious Bodily Fluids Unmasked By Vigilant Patriot Agent A. Smith

During his appearance before The Special Committee of selective High Dudgeon and Look What's Happenin' Now, the unmasked and unrepentant Bolshevik spy, code named RRH, revealed details of the forty year project which included vile, cowardly pree-ver-shuns such as promotion of single payer medicine, universal education, and full employment.

Gruesome schemes were also uncovered to infiltrate overseas operations, be decorated for service in a theatre of war and express doubts about it later.

"That's how your hardcore Commie works." stated Special Agent Aizino Smith, "Just read the first pages Sun Tzu."

During questioning by the committee the newly exposed RRH seethed and hissed betwween fangs until just yesterday well hidden with prostetics,

"And I would have succeded too if not for that meddling Agent Smith!!"

    3. "McNamara accused China of harboring imperial aspirations, just like Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan. According to McNamara, the Chinese were conspiring to menacingly "organize all of Asia" against the United States:"

  3. My brother, a draftee during the war, would scan the obituary columns to see if any of his high school classmates or military friends were dying in SE Asia. He finally stopped looking because of the pain in his heart reading the casualty lists and seeing names he knew.

Vietnam was a political debacle that destroyed the Great Society and tore this country apart. I witnessed friends and family stop talking to each other because one side saw the war as pointless and immoral while the other side said we needed to win to stop Godless Communists.

We lost the Civil War to the communists. We are now sending them arms.

I guess time has given us the final answer on the importance of falling dominos to our security and economy.

Maymy brothers friends rest in peace.

  5. By your Logic.

5,000 or 10,000 dead in WW2 would have been too much to defeat NAZI Germany or Japan.

When the Bader-Meinhoff gang executed people in West Germany and then hid out in 5 star hotels in East Germany or Moscow, that could be considered a civil war in your mind.

Vietnam was partitioned between Communists one one side and Catholics, Buddhists and everyone else. People voted with their feet except communist sleepers who were told to remain in the South. Civil war my butt.
