CNN: Trump says Putin is 'not going to go into Ukraine,' despite Crimea
Washington (CNN)Donald Trump said Sunday that Russian President Vladimir Putin won't make a military move into Ukraine -- even though Putin already has done just that, seizing the country's Crimean peninsula.
"He's not going into Ukraine, OK, just so you understand. He's not going to go into Ukraine, all right? You can mark it down. You can put it down. You can take it anywhere you want," Trump said in an interview with ABC's George Stephanopoulos on "This Week."
"Well, he's already there, isn't he?" Stephanoploulos responded, in a reference to Crimea, which Putin took from Ukraine in early 2014.
Trump said: "OK -- well, he's there in a certain way. But I'm not there. You have Obama there. And frankly, that whole part of the world is a mess under Obama with all the strength that you're talking about and all of the power of NATO and all of this. In the meantime, he's going away. He takes Crimea."

WNU Editor: Donald Trump is right that a majority of Crimeans do not want to be a part of Ukraine anymore .... as to the war in eastern Ukraine .... this is primarily a fight between Ukrainians and Russian Ukrainians with backing and support from outside powers .... the West on Kiev's side, Russia on the other. As to Donald Trump's remarks on "Putin is not going to go into Ukraine" .... he probably means a Russian invasion into Ukraine proper. Either way .... he has to clarify this remark. As to what is my take on Russia invading Ukraine proper .... with the exception of some Russian nationalists .... there is no stomach in the Kremlin or in the Russian public to invade and then become responsible for cleaning up that mess.
Trump is not that well educated regarding Russia, or anyhere else for that matter. He has the attention span of a fruit fly. Two words explain his so-called Putinism,
ReplyDeleteCarter Page.
As for clarification, Crimea is Russian and no one, not even the Cookie Monster, can change that.
DeletePeople who are brilliant often are able to focus on many things at one time. To those less capable such people may appear to have the attention span of a "fruit fly."
ReplyDeleteWill Mr. Trump make a good POTUS? While he has some good qualities, he appears brash and arrigant. Such traits may not serve him well in the job as POTUS.
How does he "know" what is in Mr. Putin's mind? Again, presumptive arrogance. With that said, he's probably right here that Russia is not going to move further into Ukraine. I would add unless Ukraine acts to further provoke Russia.
The bottom line is Crimea is part of Russia. This cannot be changed. All affected need to act accordingly.
While I do expect more sensible foreign policies under President Trump, it is not known if this will be enough to turn the nation around. It may be to late.
yes, as RHH said, Crimea is part of Russia. Always has been. However, the old USSR muddied the waters, especially for those with short memories, when Nikita Khrushchev made Crimea part of Ukraine with his pen, by decree, (not sure why frankly). Anyway, that crazy move by Khrushchev made things tougher for Russia later, when Russia (rightfully) wanted Crimea back, especially when Ukraine started becoming more hostile to Russia and more friendly to Western Europe.
ReplyDeleteI really think Trump is right to question the US role in NATO. Russia is not the enemy of the US anymore. That ended when the USSR disbanded. The US should not bankrupt itself in "protecting" Western Europe from Russia. US should disengage from NATO; the time of NATO is over. Only thing NATO is doing is protecting the big central banks, who want war and conflicts between nations to gain more power for themselves.

ReplyDeleteYou don't have to be brilliant when born into privilege. And it's really easy to think about things and you never have to concern yourself with hunger, homelessness, unemployment, unattended ill health etc. He's not that bright. Slick? Yeah. Ruthless. sure. Brilliant? Fk no. He's about as complicated as the back of a cereal box.
Hillary is smarter. Much smarter and just as, if not more, arrogant.
Anon, I agree with you on Khruschev. As an individual who reads Soviet history, I can say he is not my favourite figure. I get some patiently applied upbraiding from our dear Editor for expressing my higher opinion of his predecessor. Past that, Trump's buffoonery kind of reminds me of Khruschev now that think I about it.
NATO is what you say. Muscle for finance capitalists who make up the current dominant f(r)action. Problem is, Trump is a capitalist, and just because he doesn't like NATO doesn't mean he won't use the military to protect or make make profit for other factions of his class.
Case in point:

Doesn't he sound "brilliant"?
I thought our Conservatives were dumb- they are- but sheesh!
And let's not forget...
Scott Baio!!!!!!
RRH .... higher opinion .... cough cough ....
ReplyDeleteRRH,
ReplyDeleteSonetimes those less smart are not able to comprehend those who are smarter than they. As such, some people may seem simple to them when in actuality their ways are simply so much higher than the others that they simply can't comprehend them. I think this is the case with Mr. Trump's critics.
As for Hiliary, she is a real buffoon but has been protected by powerful people. Her future is extensive jail time. What ultimately takes her down will be something petty. Think O. J. Simpson.
As for taking the oil, probably not. I don't think the rest of the world will allow that but if someone had to concern themselves with a risk of loss should they threaten us and combined with a more pragmatic approach to foregin poljcy that means less foreign US involvement along with less emphasis on nation building this might just be enough to enhance American national security.
Under President Trump NATO and US involvement in such will change significantly. Will it be for the better? We cannot "know" this nor can we "know" how successful his presidency will be until his term is completed.
As I've stated before, he was not and is not my first choice for POTUS.
Wow great minds think alike lol

He says those things you mention B. Because he is a salesman telling people what they want to hear.
ReplyDeleteI don't think he is any smarter than you or I. I honestly really don't. I think your foreign policy prescriptions are better, and more genuinely your own, than his.
You should run.
Hillary is proof that smart people can do stupid things. Donald Trump is proof that stupid peopel should not be allowed to vote let alone run for president.
And B.
ReplyDeleteLike the rest of the world stopped the invasion of Iraq or the destruction of Libya.
C'mon.....
And Editor
Hee hee,
You don't miss a thing, do ya?
And I know B.
ReplyDeleteHe's not your choice for Prez. I can tell you are brighter than that.
RRH,
ReplyDeleteThank you for the replies to my posts and for the compliment with the last post. At least I think it's a compliment.-)
Very respectfully, people with sales backgrounds understand that you must first detemine what people want and need, explain to them that they are going to fill this need, and then actually fill it. Failure to do this even once and especially with a big project can mean the loss of one's livelyhood. In contrast, career politicians who have support within the media and the bureaucracy have a better chance of shielding themselves.
While there are some similarities between my foreign poljcy ideas and those of Mr. Trump, there are some stark differences and I do agree that mine are better. Also, his mouth seems to get ahead of his brain at times. This is not good for a person seekjng the position of POTUS.
The wars in Iraq and Libya weren't done for the purpise of stealing the oil of these nations. Had this been the reason they would have had no support. The world will not allow the United States to take Iraq's oil without proper compensation. For what it's worth, the nation state is obligated to do what it can to ensure it's citizens have access to a stable and reasonably priced supply of oil. In retrospect, tbe wars in Iraq and Libya undermined this. Do more to develop our own resources and we do more for our national security than just about anything we are currently doing.
I think we agree we will not "know" what team Trump will do until he actually takes office and serves his terms. Thank you for suggesting I should ren, at least I think.:-)
Khrushev has given Crimea to Ukraine to thanks the help on food supply made for Red Army and to repair relations after the Holodomor (mass death for starving made by Stalin, even if that part of history should be more discussed). Also honor the Ukraine war heroes.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how better may made a reparation for a crime on humanity, but the coup government of today Ukraine has spite on this, became puppets of NATO, foreign oligarchs and leaving neonazi retards hit Russian minority and comrades.
Their evil intent are to isolate Russia from Black Sea and give the naval base near Sebastopoli hostage of NATO.
But they made the counts without Putin. Great error.
What worries me is that Russia is so unjustly demonized in the West by leaders such as Hillary and Obama. The propaganda organs disguised as a free press present this view without any critical thought. US citizens are accepting this view as fact, that Russia is still the enemy of the US. At least Trump does not blindly accept this. I say, roll the dice on Trump, He may surprise us all, now if only he will shut up and allow himself to be elected.
