Al Jazeera: CIA chief not optimistic Syria will remain one country
John Brennan fears it may be impossible to save Syria from partition, amid conflict in which nearly 400,000 have died.
The head of the US Central Intelligence Agency has said he is not optimistic about the future of Syria remaining one country.
John Brennan's comments are a rare public acknowledgement by a senior US official that Syria may not survive a five-year civil war in its current state.
"I don't know whether or not Syria can be put back together again," he said on Friday at the annual Aspen Security Forum in Colorado.
"There’s been so much blood spilled, I don’t know if we’re going to be able to get back to [a unified Syria] in my life time."

WNU Editor: The Syrian war has spilled so much sectarian blood that I doubt that it will have the capacity to function as a stable and unified country in my lifetime .... if ever. And even if Assad is gone .... the sectarian animosities now run so deep that any reconciliation will take generations to overcome.
A more accurate headline would be "Brennan hopes Syria won't remain intact, and last month shipped 90 tons of weapons to al Sham and ISIAs to make sure."
