Saudi Arabia Warns Of 'Disastrous Consequences' Over US 9/11 Law

The National: Gulf Arab states warn of fallout from US Congress’s Saudi 9/11 law

ABU DHABI // Gulf Arab states warned of fallout for American economic interests and counter-terrorism cooperation on Thursday after the US Congress voted to override a presidential veto on a law that will allow families of 9/11 victims to sue Saudi Arabia.

"Populist legislation in the Jasta case prevailed over rationalism, which is required in all matters of international law and investment risks. The repercussions will be serious and enduring," tweeted Dr Anwar Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, referring to the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act, or Jasta.

  1. RRH,
I'm sorry, but you asked me a question and I've lost the comment where you did. I think it was along the lines of did I have any ideas of who in the US government would want to sabotage our relationship with either Saudi Arabia or Russia? Could you ask me again?

  3. Like with so many other predictions of dire consequences and fallout and disister; this will again prove to be the same as all the last ones. The opposite. Obama has never - not once - ever been correct or truthful in any of his assertions as president.

This one's no different. A big nothingburger.

    1. LMAO,

Senate Republicans write and pass a garbage piece of Legislation,

Obama veto's it because it's a garbage piece of Legislation with a bunch of "unintended consequences"*,

The Senate Republicans vote to override Obama's veto,

Then, less than a week later, Mitch McConnel, the Senste Republican Senate leader, announces they have to completely rewrite the garbage law because of "unintended consquences"*,

And the ignorant knee jerk response is "Blame Obama!".

*the unintended consequences are not the Saudi reaction, but the fact the law as written, removes Soverign Immunity as a nullification process from US Courts. All Soverign Immunity, including the United States Government's.

      Gotta love the craycray.

  5. I'm not blaming Obama for this one. I would have if it had passed. I'm just pointing out that he's wrong. Again.

The next bad move I will blame Obama for is the upcoming surrender the internet. Which, by the way, the US created for everyone. For free.

    /You're welcome.

    1. He's not wrong.

While the Law had "good intent", it was badly written, Grade 11 High School badly written.

Obama's rejection was not based in any way on the US -Saudi Alliance, but the fact it was a too generalized POS piece of Legislation, and he said so, verbally and in writing.

The Republican Senate overrode his veto, not because it was a good piece of legislation, but because Obama veto'ed it.

Now, they are "f€cked", hoisted on their own petard, have to amend and pass a POS piece of Legislation, in a dead session, before anymone of 10 million plaintiffs launch lawsuits against the US and any other Government in Court. It's now a race between ambulance chasers and the Republican Senate.

      LMAO,

As for the Internet, another clueless American, listening to too much Alex Jones and not reading enough Wired.

  7. @Jay Farquharson it wasn't Senate republicans only. it was 97 votes in favor so this was a bit of a slap in Obama's face from Democrats as well.
