Is Donald Trump's Assessment On The Battle For Mosul Is Correct?

ABC News: Donald Trump Says He'll Teach Military Expert 'a Couple of Things' About Mosul

Donald Trump went on the offensive against a military expert and former dean of the Army War College, Jeff McCausland, who said the Republican nominee’s comments this weekend about the battle to reclaim Mosul in Iraq show he doesn’t have a firm grasp of military strategy.

“You can tell your military expert that I’ll sit down and I’ll teach him a couple of things,” Trump told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos in an exclusive interview.

On Sunday, Trump tweeted that the ongoing offensive against the ISIS stronghold of Mosul is turning out to be a “total disaster.”

“We gave them months of notice. U.S. is looking so dumb. VOTE TRUMP and WIN AGAIN!” he tweeted.

Trump doubled down on his assertion that the element of surprise is an important military strategy.

WNU Editor: I hope that Donald Trump is wrong in his assessment on what will happen in Mosul. Unfortunately .... in almost every urban battle fought against the Islamic State .... the city has been destroyed. Will this also happen to Mosul? The way I see it .... if you have a few thousand well armed men running rampage in a city .... what do you think will happen? As to Donald Trump's criticism that the military operation should have been kept secret .... maybe in the past such secrecy could be maintained, but in today's social media world and 24/7 news and communication .... good luck.

  1. Trump is certainly delusional if a massive military operation like Mosul that involved large elements of Iragis, US forces and Kurdish forces could somehow be kept a secret and the element of surprise to be intact.

  2. True but it did give ISIS more time to prepare their welcome than seemed necessary.

  3. All u got to do is set a trap and fall from the sky set a circle and attack war is fun and erase when you fight from above. You can use a sand storm also for attack

  4. Is Trump wrong?

We have heard of the offensive since September. 4 to 6 weeks later and
    Mosul still is not liberated.

What are the ration of forces? Certainly there is asemmetry in ISIS's favor (dug in, interior lines, fanaticism), but the IA army also has asemmetric advantages such as armor, artillery, air power, supply, attack from any point of the compass, ...

Reducing IA casualties is a good reason to go slow. Going slow has drawbacks such a killing off the trapped population, but I suppose the Shia see that as a plus. They are Muslim after all.

    1. I say use a neutron bomb and is over fallowed by an electro magnetic field pulse and send the Iraqi army to clean up the mess, 100/100 enemies killed , Coalition forces zero.

  5. Trump is correct, no you cant an operation of this secret but you sure as hell can leak misinformation like when saddam was convinced his forces were going to be routed via seaborne marine invasion.
