WNU Editor: To say that the Philippines have elected a "strange" President is (IMHO) an understatement.
He reminds me of Yevgeniy Roizman, the mayor of Yekaterinburg, only with more bark and much, much more bite. Both are "anti-drug" vigilante demagogues. While I don't think his approach is at all acceptable, Duterte was clearly elected more for domestic policies than for international grandstanding, which is understandable as the true value of the "American alliance" is questionable. (You could argue it is relevant against China, but would you say that if China seriously attacked the Philippines, America would stand aside because of Duterte? So he loses nothing by pushing it away, as I see it.)
