Reuters: Venezuela crisis enters dangerous phase as Maduro foes go militant
CARACAS (Reuters) - In a curious convergence of events on the same day last week, four Venezuelan provincial courts issued identical rulings, state governors quickly hit Twitter to celebrate, then the election board emailed a short but bombshell statement.
Opposition hopes for a referendum to recall President Nicolas Maduro were dashed, on grounds of fraud in an initial signature drive. The vote was off.
For many in the opposition, that settled a years-old debate about the nature of Venezuela's socialist government, uniting them in conviction they are now fighting a dictatorship.
Their new militancy heightens the risk of unrest as the South American OPEC member of 30 million people grapples with a dangerous economic and political crisis.

Another socialist/communist success story!
ReplyDeleteA Venezuelan implosion will be the Western hemisphere's Syria, except it won't be radical islamists, it will be radical catholic drug-lords pushing people into a mass migration.

ReplyDeleteI have been following the story in Venezuela for some years. It is amazing how much the population will take without rising up. It says a lot about the level of influence the Cuban communists have had in setting up the internal security system of Chavez/Maduro.

Delete"Venezuela is not Cuba,
ReplyDeleteI see more parallels between what the Venezuelans and Americans are dealing with. Most know Maduro and the gang are inept but joining the opppsition just means turning back to mass poverty -and no programs- under Caprilles,Carmona and other Vende Patrias.
They are stuck between a rock and a hard place.
If it keeps up, we may just see a Cuban style revolution and/or civil war. There are certainly those who have been preparing for it since Chavez' time." -RRH

The Venezuelans had their Cuban revolution. That was Chavez friend, benefactor and ally of Cuba.
Not only that but Chavez was a Nnarco-terrorist lord just like the Cuban leaders.
"Most know Maduro and the gang are inept but joining the opposition" GASP is too horrible ...
Better to starve to death with dignity under Maduro (he means well) than to try anything else but socialism.
Who is the gang with Maduro? they are the people who were with Chavez.
Or did they all die when Chavez died?
Maybe they did! they were all executed so they could be buried with Xhavez in the manner of Shi-huang-di. So we do not have the original Chavanistas but something else. Something not holy.
Still one suspect that the gang with Maduro if not original chavanists (We should do a survey to belie the 'concerns of devout, religious socialist like RRH.) are suitably religiously devout socialist. After all how many American Leftist have flown to Caracas to signal their virtue.
Maybe RRH is not sufficiently impressed with Maduro because he never traveled to the UN in NYC and said "I smell SULFUR!"
