Growing Signs That Russian Sanctions May End In The Coming Year

Bloomberg: EU Fatigue Over Russia Sanctions Shows as Putin Reset Looms

* Leaders say no agreement to impose new penalties over Syria
* Existing sanctions over Ukraine rolled over for six months

European Union differences over Russia were exposed as leaders arrived for their last summit of the year, underlining the 28-nation bloc’s fatigue with a sanctions regime that is losing support globally.

Even as EU leaders agreed to roll over economic penalties imposed on Russia over Ukraine, they sent divergent signals on whether to widen sanctions against the Kremlin in response to Russia’s bombing of civilians in Syria.

The mixed messages underscored the shifting mood in Europe as well as in the U.S. in favor of resetting relations with President Vladimir Putin even as Russian forces are blamed for escalating a humanitarian crisis in the final assault on the Syrian city of Aleppo.

WNU Editor: The expected next President of France has voiced his disapproval of Russian sanctions. President-elect Trump wants to reset Russian relations. EU leaders who pushed for sanctions against Russia when the Ukraine crisis exploded are now either gone or will soon be gone. The only leader left standing is German Chancellor Merkel, and her prospects of being re-elected next year rest on how serious the migrant crisis will be next year. My prediction .... sanctions against Russia will be partially lifted (or lifted entirely) by the end of 2017.

Sanctions against Russia were always going to be a losing proposition. While there may be a time and a place for sanctions as they possibly can be effective against small waek countries who have no allies, sanctions will never be effective against either large powerful countries like Russia who have numerous allies. Not only will the attempt be ineffective it'll make matters worse.

I could have told Western European and American officials this at the start. They didn't ask me. They base their decisions on ideolgy and are incapable of sound analysis on anything. After all these are the same people who blame Russia for BREXIT and HRC's loss. Need we say more.

Frankly I'm surprised sanctions held this long. Clearly they've served Mr. Putin's interests in that is has fostered an "us against them" environment with Mr. Putin representing "us" (Russians). This has helped increase his popularity. Again, I could have told "western" leaders this fromm the start.

Clearly team Trump should be prepared to do everything in his power to get all US sanctions against Russia lifted immediately. They simply aren't sustainable, never were, and were never going to be. The sanctioner will end up being hurt worse tgan the sanctiioned should such foolishness be allowed to continue.

By the selection of team members and suggested appointees on the part of Mr. Trump it seems possible that we FINALLY are about to have mature, level headed, sober minded midults managing things as opposed to the combination of children in adult bodies and psychopaths who have been managing things.

There were targeted sanction against Russian officials.

American pork producers lost Russia as an export market.

Russian pork producers are now exporting to america's #1 pork customer, China.

Poland is dumping apples in America hurting growers here, because the Poles lost their Russian market.

Sheissmeister Obama has been a disaster for America. He has waged a very effective economic war against America.

One author at SOFREP,com said "If you have not beaten your enemy in 3 years you are training him."

Did the Obama administration expect to beat Russia in 3 years with sanctions?

I certainly use to believe in them. Some time since 2006, i came to believe sanction need to be short and sharp. They need to sudden like an impulse (force) and not something gradually ratcheted up.

The DoD wargames military scenarios. Did anyone at the White House wargame an economic warfare scenario or did they have a fucking choom session?
