The Guardian: Riz Ahmed warns lack of diversity on TV will drive young to Isis
Actor says viewers from minority backgrounds are switching off and turning to terrorism propaganda films which make recruits look like James Bond
Actor and rapper Riz Ahmed has warned that the enduring failure to champion diversity on TV is alienating young people, driving them towards extremism and into the arms of Isis.
Ahmed, known for his roles in Four Lions and the the Star Wars prequel Rogue One, said the lack of diverse voices and stories onscreen led people from minority backgrounds to “switch off and retreat to fringe narratives, to bubbles online and sometimes even off to Syria”.

Update: Star Wars Actor: Put Muslims on TV or They Will Join ISIS (Washington Free Beacon)
WNU Editor: I think there are bigger reasons on why many young men decide to run-off and join the Islamic State .... and what is on TV (or not on TV) is probably on the bottom of their priority list.
Omfg.. Just because I don't see my nationality or ethnicity or religious affiliation (agnostic) much on TV doesn't make me a murderer either... what a fucked up thought?! I love star wars but where's the outcry over this fucked up comment? It's like giving in to hate (don't blow us up. ..we'll put you on TV, ok?)... we tried appeasement and weakness for more than 15 years now. .enough of this already
ReplyDeleteAllot of the people who are our leaders have/do agree with nonsense of this type. No wonder we can't win. On ths plus side for us, the enemy doesn't understand us very well either. Hence we largely fought largely to a stalemate.
ReplyDeleteI understand ISIS offers mostly cameo roles and bit parts.
ReplyDeleteThere are plenty of roles for Muslims in the movies as black hats.
ReplyDeleteDoing what they do:
- Asking people of they are Muslim and then killing them if they are not.
- Raping women
- Blowing & bulldozing up places of worship (Syria, Iraq, Mali, Afghanistan).
- Disemboweling children
- Massacring tourists.
At times it is essential to show different ethnicities in a different light. Italians were all perceived to be in the mafia via movies. If Muslims are not always terrorists, maybe this will have an impact on the youth watching these movies/shows. The medium is the message... let's not forget how the media shapes a culture at times... study history!!
ReplyDeleteThere have been plenty of Good Muslim movies.

ANON,
ReplyDeleteI have no problem consorting with the enemy, but that is only after they stop trying to kill us.
Is that too much to ask for?
I think Muslims earned their reputation.
- Pan Am 103. hundreds of families affected and an American icon gone.
-Hindawi affair
Now the Hindawi affair was not a SLAM BAN Thankyou MA'AM.
***It was knocking a woman up with your kid and then murdering her *** with 100 or so other people.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hindawi_affair
I think the movies "True Lies" and "Back to the Future" are accurate representations of what many Muslims do or want to do to Westerners.
A note praising Islam was found inside a disemboweled body.
The dead included a five-year-old British child and four Japanese couples on
honeymoon.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luxor_massacre
This was not a one-off.
A different group massacred tourist in Tunisia.
A French guy on Holiday in Algeria was murdered while hiking. It was not a financial crime it was a religious one.
A different group kidnapped tourist in Palawan in the Phillipines. Different group same Islam.
Unbelieveable! Yes, putting more muslims on T.V will undoubtably solve our terrorism problems! It will surely tame the murderous, zealous, fanatical cultism of Islam and end the 1500 year old quest to dominate all other cultures, simply if we ensure that more Muslims are made into movie stars; surely this is obvious?
ReplyDeleteWhy did no one think of this before!?! (Has this bloke got some cousins that need better paid work or something? Just asking!)
He's entitled to his opinion. Even if that opinion is heavily flawed and idiotic.
ReplyDeleteBut he's entitled to it.
And we are also entitled to not give a shit. Don't see this as something worth getting panties in a twist over.
Muslim TV? What does that consist of, Muslim men fondling with their goats?
ReplyDeleteD.Plowman - fully agree that he is entitled to his opinion.. good you point that out. All I am saying is that I disagree strongly. There are so many people, ethnic groups, religious groups, take a pick, who are disadvantaged, poor, you name it.. and they DON'T kill people in the name of their god. We have to stop accepting that one group gets to kill us and then reward them with TV time, more jobs, more influence, more appeasement. If you are a Muslim that is a great thing, be proud of it, but don't ask for handouts and say "if you don't do this, more Muslims will become radicalized". Is the world fair to Muslims right now? No. Are Muslims fair to the world right now? No again. There is no fairness. We are all humans trying to get along.. there is no lobbying group for me bidding on my behalf. But I don't go around asking for handouts or more airtime or anything and then suggest I might kill people if I don't get what I want. I know this is not exactly what he said, but as a person who is in the media he has to be more thoughtful about not only what his fellow Muslims might think of it, but also what the rest (people who just want to live and get along) think of it.
