Bloomberg: Sessions Removes Himself From Russia Probes Over Envoy
* Move comes amid uproar over meetings with Russian ambassador
* Trump said he still has ‘total’ confidence in Sessions
Attorney General Jeff Sessions removed himself from investigations into Russian interference in American politics and contacts with associates of President Donald Trump, after the Justice Department acknowledged he had contacts with the Russian ambassador during the 2016 campaign.
“I have decided to recuse myself from any existing or future investigations of any matters related in any way to the campaigns for president of the United States,” Sessions said Thursday in a written statement as he opened a press conference in Washington.
The move comes after the Justice Department confirmed Wednesday that Sessions spoke twice last year with Ambassador Sergey Kislyak while serving as a prominent supporter and adviser to Trump’s presidential campaign. Sessions testified during his Senate confirmation hearing Jan. 10 that “I did not have communications with the Russians.”

WNU Editor: I guess Attorney General Jeff Sessions decided to not do what President Obama's Attorney General Lynch decided to do when it came to her recusal (which she did not do) on cases where concerns on her biases were voiced. And while I am sure that there are many in the Trump administration who are now hoping that this story is dead .... my take is that it is just starting.
I think that Trump officials who had such contacts should come clean. After all this is one of the main reasons why he was elected to end Cold War II. The American people overwhelmingly do not want this, we cannot afford it, and we lack the means to effectively prosecute it even if we wanted to. As such, the sanest policy is to find a reasonable way to end this. Others want to inflame it and for no good reason. There's certainly nothing in eastern Europe or Ukraine that is worth this and perhaps if we strike a more conciliatory posture in these areas we might even be able to secure much needed help from them in dealing with Iran.
ReplyDeleteToo little, too late.
ReplyDeleteIt's starting to go full Watergate.
If this does go "full Watergate", it may be time for something drastic. The people undercutting the diplomatic process with Russia need to be removed from government by whatever means are neccessary. If they aren't, the damage done will only get worse.
ReplyDeleteIf we can't talk with foreign leaders we'll never be able to get anything done and if they don't trust us they'll never work with us. The damage these people are doing is incalculable. They are a cancer that needs to be extracted.
You kmow that Watergate was about a sitting US President using the full powers if the National Security State to engage in High Crimes and Treason, and wage an illegal "war" on a personal Enemies List, and the US Constitution, right?
DeleteIf you want the Rule of Man, a King or a Dictator, rather than the President of a Constitutional Republic, you should just come out and say so.
Jay,
ReplyDeleteNow you are using the idea of a "constitonal republic", hiding behind it, and using it like a python to strangle the lives out of the American people. Environmental groups often use the same rationale when stealing people's property. Similar rationale has been used to do nothing while invaders from south of the border carry out wholesale slaughter of the American people.
I'm pretty sure the founders never intended "rule of law" to be used in this manner as a python to destroy the people. So far we don't have team Trump trying to use the security state to destroy anyone. What we have are petty witch hunts and the undermining of a very careful diplomatic process.
Having this diplomatic process to end Cold War II succeed is profoundly in America's interests. Then again you seem to harbor a special hatred for Americans. As such, perhaps it should come as no surprise that you'd support the position most detrimental to American interests.
You know Adams, one of the Founding Fathers came up with the concept of Rule of Law, right?

And the rest of the Founding Fathers heartilly embraced it and wrote it into the Constitution, right?
LMAFO,
You've made it clear, you prefer a King, and Emperor or a Dictator to democracy.
Thanks.
Ha,ha,ha,haaa,ha,haa,ha,ha,suckers!
