The Telegraph: China enlists Russia help to avert North Korea crisis

China has sought to enlist Russia’s help to cool tensions over North Korea amid fears among Beijing’s leaders that hostilities between the United States and Pyongyang are imminent.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi made the appeal in a phone conversation with Sergey Lavrov, his Russian counterpart, after telling reporters that conflict could break out “at any moment”.

A statement on China's Foreign Ministry website said Mr Wang told the Russian diplomat: "China is ready to coordinate closely with Russia to help cool down as soon as possible the situation on the peninsula and encourage the parties concerned to resume dialogue.”

  1. And that's the craziest thing to do, to call in Russians to cool down tensions.. omg.. just imagine if China, Russia and the US get involved there.. it will be like Syria, just with more nukes. Bad move.

  2. I think Trump's best move is to have a meeting with Kim. The meeting would likely have to take place in China - don't expect Kim to go to Florida. :)

During the meeting the two could get a feeling for each other, and try to come to an agreement. The agreement has to be nuclear disarmament of North Korea (the US cannot accept a hostile nation with nuclear arms, especially after North Korea released these propaganda videos of the US engulfed in a nuclear holocaust.. this was too far). In return, the US must guarantee that it will a) not invade, and b) remove existing sanctions in turn for inspectors to come in.

If this fails, there will be war. We're stumbling around for years and years, because no one wants the unthinkable. But with every nuclear test, the hands of any US president are tied. The US just cannot allow North Korea to have these weapons at a capability level that could enrisk the US, and it's getting there this decade, likely even this or next year.

Time for inaction is over. We will see either war or the two talk.

  3. There is two players that NK depends on; china and russia. if both stop sending food and stuff, it would be hard for kim to survive.

    1. Hans..that could have worked 5 years ago. .maybe even 2 years ago..but as it stands now, North Korea is capable of delivering a nuclear warhead to the US east coast any time now... This is the Red line no administration can allow to be crossed. .the technical capability to nuke the US.. therefore I don't see sanctions to work. .they haven't worked for decades. ..either the two sides talk and come to an agreement or we'll see war this year

  4. It would be quite a joke for Russia to help unwind a problem (North Korea) that was mostly the creation of the (Georgian) Joseph Stalin, head of USSR. More than anything that murderer was the creator of the North Korea mess, followed closely by China.

  5. If chart time is over and he won't even listen to China, then reading him the riot act won't work.

The only thing that will work is to assassinate him, launch a successful coup, go to war, or do nothing and hope he does not launch one.

I prefer b__________ him. Make him an example. Watch everyone else start playing by the rules.

I am also good with him being retired to a gilded cage on a south pacific island. It is not fair, but it would spare a lot of Koreans, North and south, death or hardship. but again if he is not listening.

  6. "North Korea is capable of delivering a nuclear warhead to the US east coast any time now..."

    What is the problem?

I fail to see a drawback.

The East coast snobs have belittled the rest of the country. Yet their diplomacy has wroughht nothing.

  7. Aizino..
To your first comment - bombing him... the problem is that North Korea has millions of troops and reservists. It's not like any other nation on this planet. Even children will fight to their death (and not like in Germany only at the end. .they will help right at the beginning)..so you look at hundreds of thousands of not millions of deaths. .. that's the problem. .no one cares about killing Kim.. it's about all the innocent brainwashed people caught up in it and then you also have hundreds of thousands South Koreans potentially dying and likely several thousand Americans. Plus the decade long outfall of refugees, starvation and likely terrorist attacks by north Korean sleeper cells. It will get very very messy very quickly.
That's why no US president wants to do this unless he has no more options. And that will happen soon. As soon as there's nuclear ICBMs tested, the US has no choice but to strike.

  8. The Germans did not want to fight to the death.

    Soldiers deserted; Gestapo hung them.
People hung white flags; Gestapo; executed them

The Japanese secret police took a survey for the government. A goodly portion of the Japanese did not fight to death Watch 'Hiroshima: The Real Story' I do not agree with the documentary, but they do throw in a few facts.

I did not say bomb North Korea (I used a different b word). I firmly believe if you can leave the populace out of it and get at the root of the problem that is best. I don't like horror movies and I do not like blood and gore.

Think along the lines decapitation and making an example. After 911 ETA unilaterally declared a truce. After 2003,Qadaffi gave up his nuke and WMD programs. Making an example does work at times. I won't say it works all the time but it can work.
