Reuters: Exclusive: Trump spurns Taiwan president's suggestion of another phone call

U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday spurned the Taiwanese president’s suggestion that the two leaders hold another phone call, saying he did not want to create problems for Chinese President Xi Jinping at a time when Beijing appears to be helping with efforts to rein in North Korea.

In a White House interview, Trump brushed aside the idea after Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen told Reuters on Thursday she would not rule out talking directly again to the U.S. president, an act certain to incense China. The status of self-ruled Taiwan is possibly the most sensitive issue between Washington and Beijing.

“Look, my problem is I have established a very good personal relationship with President Xi. I really feel that he is doing everything in his power to help us with a big situation,” Trump told Reuters, referring to signs that China may be working to head off any new missile or nuclear test by Pyongyang, Beijing’s neighbor and ally.

  1. DJT allowed the Tawainese leader to use him as a prop/pawn before. Surely he wouldn't be so stupid as to allow that to happen again.

Obviously getting Chinese assistance with North Korea and getting Chinese cooperation in renegotiating trade agreements is going to be more important to America t b an Tawain. If American leaders get this and are acting accordingly, perhaps it means America is FINALLY beginning to behave like a normal nation state.

    1. You don't get it do you. ..if you think the Chinese are innocent in this and are just helping you have no clue about how strategy works. The whole north Korean issue is a set up by the Chinese to trade in the south China Sea and perhaps Taiwan. Are you really so naive to believe the whole "oh so sorry cannot help about north Korea we don't have influence"? Haha lmfao as Jay would say

North Korea: a failing state with 20mn people
Next door: China- multitrillion, soon to be#1 in the world, vast spy network, 1.3bn people, massive new state of the art military that makes north Korea army look like hobos

      Wake up, you f**l
This is extortion with nuclear missiles

  2. Aizio,

Very respectfully you have not "fixedya" anything. If anything, all you've done is presented a superficial analysis.

You use WWII as a comparison to the current situation. Very respectfully this a comparison of "apples to oranges" so to speak. I've actually discussed this on this site and others numerous times. Perhaps you were not paying attention.

"Crawl under the rock you came from", the notion that I am somehow under a rock is a patently ridiculous notion. You obviously don't know me very well. It's generally imprudent to make such rash statements about someone without knowing the pertinent facts. If someone's geopolitical analysis is superficial, I suppose this would likely carry over into other areas of the life of such a person. As such, it seems hardly surprising that such hasty and rash judgments would be made about them about another.

  3. Anon,

I never stated that China was "innocent." Very respectfully please read the posts in their entirety before commenting. In some cases, it may even be prudent to reread the posts to be sure you did not miss something the first time you read it. In your case, I don't even think you fully read it or any of my other posts here even once.

As to how much "influence" China has is a matter of debate. Based upon my research I would conclude on a scale of 0 to 10 with 0 being no influence and with 10 being full control the Chinese have influence of between 6.5 to 7. As DJT has pointed out, he has discovered this isn't nearly as easy as he thought. A US who can learn? If so, what a refreshing situation!!! Most seem wed to ideologies and cannot break away from them long enough to make sound decisions.

With that said 6.5 to 7 would be substantial and is way more than we have. If we could procure the support of them, it would be extremely helpful. For them to help us, they are going to expect to get something. Since we need their help, what can we offer that is reasonable.

The South China Sea and Taiwan are not ours to offer. Ultimately if the Chinese want them, they were/are going to take them anyway and there is little we can do about it. Even if we could, this isn't worth the loss in American lives and American treasure to spend the resources on something that does not advance our interests.

If the "price" of procuring China's help here is support for their position on the South China Sea and Taiwan and POTUS and the US leadership made the decision to agree, I would probably support such a position. When one's decision have an impact on whether others live or die, one needs to weigh things very carefully and cannot afford to allow themselves to be blinded by ideology.

Note the operative words are "probably support such a position." The offer has not been formally made to the best of my knowledge. The Chinese do seem to be helping us to an extent so something may well be up.

As has been said, "stay tuned!!" The costs of a hot war on the Korean peninsula to America will likely be extremely high. While I could be wrong, I've spelled them out elsewhere on this site and I've stated perhaps we need to go to war with North Korea. Maybe there is no choice. Given the stakes and the losses we will probably suffer, we best be certain of this decision.

1a) Using Force to get one's way is the issue
1b) Abandoning someone because someone else will use force is also the issue.

So yes I did fix it for you.

Getting caught up in the details of the hardware is misdirection. The Greeks used WMDs over 2,000 years ago to wipe out an entire city. Point is that nukes are not special and they are not particularly new.

If someone is trying to scare you using blackmail, you scare them 1st, last and in between.

I am sorry if you do not get the idiom 'crawled out from under a rock'. It marks you as a non-native speaker and a troll (& probably paid). It won't be my fault if your masters throw you out onto the street or worse. You should not have signed up for the propaganda job in the 1st place.
