President Trump Responds To German Chancellor Merkel's Criticisms Of Current Relations

Washington Times: Trump pushes back on Merkel regarding trade, NATO: ‘Very bad for U.S.’

President Trump responded Monday to German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s assertion that the European Union would have to “take our destiny into our own hands” and not rely on the U.S. or the U.K.

“We have a MASSIVE trade deficit with Germany, plus they pay FAR LESS than they should on NATO & military. Very bad for U.S. This will change,” Mr. Trump tweeted.

Ms. Merkel made her comments one day after meeting with Mr. Trump and other world leaders at the Group of Seven summit in Sicily.

WNU Editor: President Trump is very focused .... trade imbalances and NATO commitments .... two positions that German Chancellor Merkel has clearly signalled that she has no interest in changing. The German foreign minister has already responded to President Trump's tweets by warning European states that if they do not follow Germany's lead, they are then complicit with President Trump ..... German Foreign Minister: Europe Mustn't Comply with Trump's Policies (Newsweek). More from the German foreign minister here .... Germany's Foreign Minister Gabriel slams Trump for 'lecturing' (DW).

I know that the progressive left, the never Trumpers and the neocons, and the U.S. media are blaming all of this on President Trump .... but the growing sentiment in Europe is that the ones who are screwing up the alliance is Germany and Chancellor Merkel's policies. As to what is my take .... German Chancellor is going to use this dispute to push her German nationalist view point on what Europe should be .... thereby not only guaranteeing her election victory later this year, but also giving her the mandate and justification to propel Germany as the defacto leader of Europe. There is going to be a lot of blow-back against this from European states .... I am just surprised that she is this confident that her vision on what Europe should be .... and where the U.S. fits into it .... will be successful.

On another note .... many in the Western press are saying that this is fulfilling Russian President Putin's dream of a fractured NATO. I completely disagree. The last thing that Russia wants .... from Putin down to the Russian pensioner who lives in her small apartment .... is a Europe dominated by Germany. World War Two is not a footnote in history for Russians .... the memories are very deep and personal in Russia on what the Germans did. I know that my father .... with his decades of experience in dealing with Germany .... if was alive today .... would be going ballistic on what the German Chancellor is trying to do.

That is something never grasped in the West, especially how deep in the psyche of Russia this exists.

James .... I am watching the news and I am just shaking my head on how incredibly out of touch the U.S. media and the pundit class is on this one issue. And in turn .... how they are influencing the Washington political establishment.

I should have also put in the above post the German foreign minister's threat that Europe would shift to China. To China !?!?!?!?! Their handling of trade issues (and how protective they are of their economy while pushing open trade) makes the EU trade policies kindergarten in comparison.

Russia has an understandable hatred of German from WWII. On the other hand, many that lived under Russian control in East Berlin also have a hatred. Many of us in the U.S., old enough to recall WWII, have suspicions of Japan and also recall our ally China...that was then and this is now

It is not hatred Fred. It is fear. And many in eastern and central Europe see what Merkel is doing as nothing more but German arrogance that they know what is best for Europe. Yeah .... sure. That arrogance in the past has bought nothing but a lot of grief for a lot of people .... Germans included.

I understand the historical feeling in Russia regarding Germany and its belligerent past, the feeling is the same to some extent here in the U.K. as well, nearly everyone has relatives that fought in those wars, but Germany is in no shape to pose any threat at all to anyone right now. Europe is imploding, give it a few years and it will have fallen apart.
If Germany starts building its military in a major way well then might be the time to be concerned!

Chancellor Merkel...

I don't think there is a single politician in Europe who I dislike more. I can think of quite a good few who certainly come close to that level, but this woman I cannot tolerate.

She has destroyed Germany with her policies, and she is destroying Europe.

Fred,

I saw how the Greeks reacted to Merkel and the Greek economic collapse.

They claimed that the Germans did with trade what they could not do with tanks.

I do not think you would not want be German and be boisterous in Greece while on holiday. Might not be healthy.

- On another note, if the Russians had not brought 50 division from the far east to the Easter front would Germany have won?

- What if Zukhov not done an assessment of Moscow's defenses for Stalin

- What if the Moscow canal had not been built?

Russia took horrendous casualties. 10% or so of the effective in the Russian army were women. A whole year group of men was wiped out. You remember that a long time.

LMFAO,

A minority of American voters elected the Great Orange Bloat,

Some of that minority thought that as bad as Hair Furour was, the "Adults" around him would have an impact,

Unfortuantely, like the moron Bush43, turns out the idiots Adolf Twitler surrounded himself with are just as venal and moronic.

Hair Furour tweeted today that the Senate should toss the fillibister so his budget and Trumpcare can pass with only 51 Republican votes and blamed the Dems for obstructing. Despite being told over 20 times, Little Big Boy can't retain the idea that under Reconciliation, all his bills need to pass, is 51 Republican votes, that there's 52 Republican Senators, ( and 1 "Independent who's IDINO), and he can't even get their votes.

Despite no shortage of meetings with the G6 and it's members, Trump and his Goldman Sach's Advisors, can't seem to get it through their heads that the US has no "trade deals" with Germany, the US has trade deals with the EU, the whole EU and nothing but the EU.

A minority of US voters elected a kakistocracy with a Russian Usefull Idiot in charge of the US nukes. So far, the Bananna Republican's are fine with this.

It's like watching Chavez destroy Venezuela, all over again, but with out the english subtitles.

LMFAO.

Dear Mr. President:

Until you wandered on to the European stage I was seen as out of touch and a real problem to the rest of the continent. No longer. Your crass manners and real estate touch have made me look like the Queen of the Ball. Because of you, I can now rearm and lead Europe in the German way while having the world pay for it through our exports.

I cannot thank you and your alt-right, right wingers, anti-science, and fairy tail supporters for your support. As you drop off the radar as trustworthy allies more will come to Germany for anything they actually want to work.

Keep up the good work on behalf of Greater Germany.

Yours...Angela

So Jabberjay would call 46.1% an insignificant minority.

Hillary only got 48.2% and that only after the Beltway went all out for her.

When you campaign, you campaign based on electoral votes. If it were based on purely on overall percentage candidate would campaign differently. Still I hear Jay bleating or is it squealing.

Angela Merkel is not well liked in Greece. If she did not have police protection, I'd hate to think what the Greeks would do to her.

You have to wonder how much of her vote total is mere CDU support versus how much people actually like her policies.
