Reuters: U.S.' Mattis: North Korea military solution would be 'tragic on an unbelievable scale'
U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said on Friday that any military solution to the North Korea crisis would be "tragic on an unbelievable scale" and said Washington was working internationally to find a diplomatic solution.
"We are going to continue to work the issue," Mattis told a Pentagon news conference. "If this goes to a military solution, it’s going to be tragic on an unbelievable scale. So our effort is to work with the U.N., work with China, work with Japan, work with South Korea to try to find a way out of this situation."

ReplyDeleteJFK went as far as to issue a threat of war against the Soviet Union over the Cuban Missile Crisis, all the while diplomacy continued in the background.
ReplyDeleteIdea of Cubans having nuclear weapons was absolutely terrifying.
Idea of North Korea eventually having the means and capability to launch such weapons is equally terrifying, as it should be, for anyone, especially considering the regime's attitude.
I don't think the military solution will EVER be off the table, not even with future administrations. Mattis is merely pointing out the obvious; a military solution would be tragic, and diplomacy, as it should be, is a priority.
