Russian President Putin: Kremlin Did Not Hack The U.S. Election But 'Patriotically Minded' Private Russian Hackers Could Have Been Involved In Cyberattacks

New York Times: Putin Hints at U.S. Election Meddling by ‘Patriotically Minded’ Russians

MOSCOW — Shifting from his previous blanket denials, President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia said on Thursday that “patriotically minded” private Russian hackers could have been involved in cyberattacks last year to help the presidential campaign of Donald J. Trump.

While Mr. Putin continued to deny any state role, his comments to reporters in St. Petersburg were a departure from the Kremlin’s previous position: that Russia had played no role whatsoever in the hacking of the Democratic National Committee and that, after Mr. Trump’s victory, the country had become the victim of anti-Russia hysteria among crestfallen Democrats.

Raising the possibility of attacks by what he portrayed as free-spirited Russian patriots, Mr. Putin said that hackers “are like artists” who choose their targets depending how they feel “when they wake up in the morning.”

  1. Once again, innocent Russians at the mercy of the bad West and their press.

Russia is a close second to the Palestinians in coming up with fine whines about how they are being oppressed.

Russia is its own worst enemy. Does Putin actually think that the West will attack Russia? They cannot win wars against irregulars. The marines have about 30k people who can fight. The Army has minimal numbers that can fight as well. Maybe the Germans can field a volleyball teams worth of troops to attack a border post.

Russia is like most old fashioned totalitarian states. It never feels secure so it destabilizes its neighbors and attacks them when they are vulnerable.

Violent and repressive paranoids with guns.

    What could go wrong?

  2. LMFAO,

Putin's really kicked up the trolling, the victory laps, the end zone dance up to 11.

The next time he speaks on the matter, he'll claim the FSB identified the culprit as Sergei559, a 400lb hacker in the basement of #22 Kuznetskiy Most.

  3. Jay, I disagree about the address.
My prediction is that he will give this address:

1000 Colonial Farm Rd, McLean, VA 22101, USA

    :)

    1. Wrong server addresses, wrong hacking tools, wrong coding language, and there's an absence of patriotic Russian's at that address.

The Recused Nunes unrecused himself, broke house rules and is running point on the fake "unmasking" scandal. He's literally risking everything and 20 years in jail trying to run cover for Trump/Russia.

I'm really starting to wonder what the FSB got off the RNC servers.

It can't be typical Washington corruption, it's gotta be "dead bodies" and "the murder weapon" grade blackmail.

  4. Sounds to me like the editor would claim that Stalin's purges and butchery were all a subject of a sinister plot by the Poles who wanted to get even with the USSR for bringing them Democratic socialism.

I think the editor has tipped his hand and has identified his ultimate boss and address.

    Lubyanka
