South China Morning Post: China shows off military muscle in unprecedented parade to mark 90th anniversary of People’s Liberation Army
China staged an unprecedented “combat style” military parade at its biggest training base in Inner Mongolia on Sunday to mark the 90th anniversary of the People’s Liberation Army.
Xi Jinping, China’s president, military commission chairman and the commander-in-chief for the world’s largest army, inspected 12,000 military personnel and the country’s latest military devices, 40 per cent of which were displayed to the public for the first time.
The parade took place at Zhurihe Combined Tactics Training Base, 400 kilometres northwest of Beijing.
Xi wore a camouflage uniform, marking the first time a Chinese leader has worn such a uniform in a military parade.
Soldiers shouted “Zhu Xi Hao”, or “salute to the chairman”, to him.

WNU Editor: This is the first time that I have seen a Chinese President wear a camouflaged uniform. As for the parade itself, this was done not only for the Chinese audience, but also as a message to the world.

ReplyDeleteWNU,
ReplyDeleteYou're right on the messaging.
A few quick observations:
Not in Bejing
No other high officials (especially civilian) on the podium or in the review vehicle
Sequence of what was reviewed interesting
Minor importance:
Paint and camo colors and schemes
a few others, but boring
WNU,
ReplyDeletePossible conclusion: Xi is not as secure in his position as he would like some to believe.
