ABC News Online: Saudi Arabia police 'arrest' woman wearing miniskirt in video that sparked public outcry
A woman filmed wearing a miniskirt and crop top in Saudi Arabia on social media has been arrested, according to state media.
The woman, whose name was not given, was detained by police in the capital, Riyadh, for wearing "immodest clothes" that contradicted the country's conservative Islamic dress code, state media reported on Tuesday.
The footage, which shows the woman walking around a historic fort in a miniskirt with no-one else around, sparked uproar across the nation after it was uploaded on Snapchat over the weekend.

An Indian told me that woman's sufferage is why India can deal with its large muslim population. This and freedom of religion should be points to pressure these regimes into joining the 21st century.
ReplyDeleteIn the 1980's, I spent some time on several occasions in Saudi Arabia when I was in the US military. I always found it disturbing whenever I encountered Saudi women who were covered from head to toe, usually in a back alley somewhere off the main streets in Riyadh. I heard years later that conditions for women had worsened afterwards.
