Are Democrats Fearful Of A Russian Probe Blowback?

Special Counsel Robert Mueller departs after briefing members of the U.S. Senate on his investigation into potential collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign on Capitol Hill in Washington, U.S., June 21, 2017. Joshua Roberts, Reuters.

Politico: Democrats fear Russia probe blowback

'We need to talk about what people think about when they wake up in the morning, and it’s not Russia,' said one strategist.

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. — Democrats are increasingly conflicted about how forcefully to press the issue of possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.

Fearful of alienating voters who appear more concerned about the economy and health care, Democrats campaigning in districts across the country are de-emphasizing Russia in their rhetoric — and some are warning that a persistent focus on the Russia investigation could backfire.

“In the races where I’m working, I think voters think that Russia is important and that the questions need to get answered,” Bill Burton, a veteran Democratic consultant, said at a political convention this past weekend. “But they’re mostly sick of hearing about it, and they want to hear politicians talk about things that are more directly important in their lives.”

WNU Editor:  Aside from progressive Democrats, never Trumpers, the media, and news junkies like myself, I do not see that same interest in this story among the general public. What they are focused on is .... the high cost of healthcare and the economy .... and if they do think about Washington, it is why are they obstructing President Trump from implementing the agenda that he was elected on. But as to the question .... do Democrats fear blow-back? My read is that there is too much invested by the Democrats and by many in the media for this story to go away .... but there is a problem. Since the election there has been numerous reports and claims on Russian collusion, but no one has provided any evidence that an indictable crime has been committed. Just a lot of claims and allegations .... but as famed lawyer Alan Dershowitz has put it more than once, where is the crime? .... Dershowitz on Trump/Russia Investigation: Stop Accusing People Of Crimes When There Is No Evidence Of Crimes (RCD). If there is anyone who is in trouble (so far), it is former National Security adviser Michael Flynn, and his problems do not involve Russia, they involve Turkey and not declaring income earned properly .... Mueller Is Investigating Whether Flynn Engaged In Kickback Scheme With Turkish Businessman (Daily Caller). Then there is this story .... Hunt for Trump dossier author inflames Russia probe (Politico). The Russian dossier on President Trump is what kick-started this entire scandal, and even though the author of the report has admitted that the report is based on no facts or evidence, it is the reason why we are where we are today. So far .... the company that commissioned this report (i.e. GPS Fusion) is not cooperating with investigators, but I predict that it is only a matter of time before Robert Mueller's Commission issues subpoenas on who were the individuals who paid for this report .... and I am willing to bet that there are going to be some Democrat fingerprints on this dossier as well as some establishment Republicans. Do Democrats want their involvement exposed .... do certain Republicans want their involvement exposed .... I doubt it .... but we shall see. On a side note, it looks like the fix is in .... Dershowitz: DC-area grand jury gives Mueller 'tactical advantage' over Trump (The Hill).

  1. Exactly Mr WNU Editor.

It has unleashed Trump's very determined desire for revenge against HRC and Obama.

This could be explosive as the USG finally brings the full weight of law against them for very obvious crimes not nuanced interpretations of meetings of Trump jr with the Russian lawyer who pulled a bait and switch.

thanks for that load of evidence to support your accusation. Will take me some time to sort through it all, but since Trump seems not overly fond of Mueller and gang, this may show how clever he truly is, and we thought him a simpleton!

  4. Trump won. R's control house, senate, judiciary. You have your own media outlets which keep the base riled and duped.

Yet R's can't govern, or they don't know how or simply don't want to.

So it's groundhog day for campaign '16 and lock her up.

Get on with business of state already R's, do something, do anything. You have been blaming the Clinton's for a quarter century now for all your failures. It's beyond pathetic and tiresome.

  5. The whole Mueller investigation is a big crime shopping spree. No limits, no boundaries. Just a fishing expedition to try to find a crime that fits the "Russian Collusion" template. So far nothing. Trouble is, with never-Trumpers anything Trump does IS A CRIME. Him being illegitimate and all, any action he takes as president is illegal. So everything's a crime.

I can tell you, living in the US - even in SoCal - people are fed up with this. Listening to people talk at the gym, the store, colleagues and customers across the board are shaking their heads at this. One thing that struck me early on about this election in particular was the level of out loud political conversation. Usually Americans are quiet in public about their leanings. But the support for Trump was palpable outside of urban centers. Now the support for the president has hardened to the same level of anti-Trumpers' hatred. And Dems are without an agenda other than "Destroy Trump!"

So yes, blow back is going to be felt not just by Dems, but also by the droves of spineless Republicans who are doing exactly the opposite of what they campaigned on for 7 years. The 2018 primaries can't come soon enough.

  6. I can not speak for southern California, nor, indeed, even northern Ca., and I avoid gyms, unless there is a yoga class with women in yoga pants, but other than your end of the nation, in total now 34% popularity for Trump seems a bit less support than he previously has had...and I am guessing as a non-pundit that like the Titanic, this is likely to sink further rather than to shoot upward. Since Trump has done so nice a job in making the stock market soar, and jobs in an upward trend, then what else do poor Dems have to babble about in bars, fast food places, and Walmart but the alleged connection not of just Trump but his close associates and most of his family...perhaps with some new tv streaming, such as House of Cards, the liberals can turn their attention to better entertainment

  9. The interesting thing about this month's poll numbers is that while they seem to indicate that President Trump's numbers are down .... the poll numbers for everyone else are even worse. When Congress is at a 10% approval rating .... and across all party lines .... Trump's 34% looks golden. But this is all still talk .... everyone knows that these numbers mean nothing until a few days before an election, and even then (as we all learned from the last election) you have to question if they are valid.
