WNU Editor: I have mentioned this before .... the media focus is on North Korea, U.S. - Japanese responses, Chinese reaction, etc.. But the real 800 lb gorilla in the room is South Korea .... and they are positioning themselves to make it clear to everyone that they are not going to be quiet nor are they going to play a junior role in the discussions.
Oh, please. North Korean soldiers will chew up south Korean soldiers and then ask for dessert. It's no comparison. After air strikes there's not much the south can do. North Korean soldiers live under severe conditions and are used to real hardship. South Korean soldiers go home to their soft beds and flat screen TV homes. No south Korean soldier wants boots on the grounds because this war cannot be won with boots on the ground. The North would win in any conflict that drags out longer than 6 months. So it would have to be extremely fast. And, realistically, without nukes it would be difficult to achieve "victory" that quickly and reliably. And we don't want to do that. So we can't "win". So north Korea will have nukes ultimately. And they will be contained through more air defense systems, until one day the leadership can be safely replaced by either the Chinese or Americans.
ReplyDeleteI think you will find the opposite to be the reality. South Korean soldiers are far better trained, immeasurably better equipped, and far more motivated.
DeleteOne of Kim's biggest fears will not be how many 1000s of troops will run to the south to fight, but how many will defect.
Many experts agree that north cannot keep up the supply and logistics chain to frontline combat units for more than 3 weeks, let alone 6 months.
DeleteThey thought the same about Vietnam. They were wrong then and are wrong now.
DeleteI disagree Anon. The South Korea that I know is not soft .... nowhere near it.
ReplyDeleteThese constant threats has to be some kind of mindgame to make Kim paranoid and start killing off more of his closest generals and advisors or make it clear that Kim himself is in danger if he starts a war.
