Beijing can no longer wait to prepare contingency plans for the worst, says Chinese scholar
Anxiety across the globe is growing by the day as Pyongyang and Washington trade threats of military action. Yet there is insufficent discussion of specifically how the powers concerned would react should the unthinkable happen.
With no agreed upon roadmap for what would transpire in the event of all-out war, leaders in Beijing, Washington and Seoul are placing all their hopes on maintaining a delicate status quo. But the dysfunctional relationship between all parties involved is not sustainable. It is also entirely dependent on avoiding what appears to be the increasing likelihood of an unfortunate misunderstanding.

WNU Editor: This is an update from my 17:00 EST post. It is another example on the pressure that the Chinese are now facing that they must start talking with the U.S. and South Korea on what needs to be done if North Korea implodes.

ReplyDeleteWell, SoKo, Japan, most of Europe have no nuclear weapon and rely on the American umbrella. Why NoKo will not accept to be denuclearized and be under the Chinese and Russian umbrella?
ReplyDeleteThe problem would be fixed...for everybody but NoKo, because they want to "reunify" Korea under the Pyongyang rules. That will block any negotiation.
