NFL Looking For A Compromise ON Anthem Protests

Rick Moran, American Thinker: NFL desperately looking for compromise on anthem protests

With ticket sales plummeting, TV viewership cratering, and their "brand favorability" dropping like a stone, the NFL league office hosted a meeting yesterday among league officials, the owners, and players to find a way off the ledge the players have placed the NFL by protesting the national anthem.

While no specific course of action was agreed to, several teams last weekend all stood for the anthem, linking arms as a show of unity against Donald Trump's criticisms. That may be the way out for owners who realize what they're risking by standing behind players who kneel for the anthem.

  1. Bite the bullet, cut your losses, have the players take the field after the anthem (pre 2008) and never speak of it again.

  2. It is worth noting this:
Like so many of his compatriots, Francis Scott Key, the wealthy American lawyer who wrote “The Star Spangled Banner” in the wake of the Battle of Fort McHenry on 14 September 1814, was a slaveholder who believed blacks to be “a distinct and inferior race of people, which all experience proves to be the greatest evil that afflicts a community.” It goes without saying that Key did not have the enslaved black population of America in mind when he penned the words “land of the free.” It would be logical to assume, as well, that he might have harbored a special resentment toward African Americans who fought against the United States on behalf of the King.

    1. Where did you get the quote of Francis Scott Key

    2. Fred, thanks for your perspective. It's so easy to bash blacks for kneeling. I strongly support them and I hope others will come around and support it too. It's not UnAmerican to protest for equality. It is the very essence of America. Unalienable rights to be equal. They don't feel equal - undestandably so - That's what they want. It's not too much to ask for in 2017.

  4. Once again Fred proves his worth

The Star Spangled banner has 5 stanzas. Only the 1st 1 or 2 stanzas are sung. People only know the 1st stanza. To throw away the 1st stanza would be (secular) sacrilege. To replace the 3rd stanza, no one would care.

    1. Nothing about that anthem is sacred or cannot be replaced. Values should dictate the way forward. I don't see any problem in replacing the anthem and have a fresh start. Maybe let a deserved black musician do the new anthem. Or a joint venture of all races even better. That's what America is about. Progress. Equality. Justice. Not holding on to an anthem.

Not saying you have to abolish it. But if it helps to unite the country, why not. Might be time.

  5. Why do the anthem thing at all? Any compromise will fail as soon as the next black kid gets killed by a cop.

  6. A black 26 y/o kid got shot by police.

He was 26, so words only means what hucksters want them to mean.

He was a bank robber suspect holed up in a ranch with a brick façade in a middle class neighborhood. The police negotiated with him for 2 hours. They brought his mother. They could have stormed the house with swat, but the police wanted to end it peacefully.

The kid aged 26 came out with a gun. They protested. They can protest all they want.

Right now it seems they are losing. They say they are going to stand for the anthem. However, the Left never gives up because it never pays a price. In Russian and China the Left lost, but the children of the head Leftists no so much. They never pay a price.

One of the Anons is claims he is a Bangladeshi Brit. Has that Anon seen how the gentle giant for Ferguson assaulted a storekeeper of South Asian? Maybe this will help.

If we replaced the whole anthem, we would probably get something like "manning the ramparts for socialism".

The statues, the anthem, the bad analysis on police shootings is all political and all driven by the Left.

The Left does not care about black people, but they will use blacks. You have FIDO policing now. As a result several hundred blacks die each year at the hands of the blacks. You can call it the Ferguson Effect or the Baltimore Effect. If you are a Leftists the blood of these several hundred more dead people is on your hands. How do you plead?

Here is the prediction. More police agencies are going to get cameras and then where will the Leftists in academia, the press, politics and the rank & file go? There will still be high profile cases. So there will be FOIA requests. Then these videos will be public domain. Then people will have had enough of Leftists.
