New York Times: Trump Envisions a Parade Showing Off American Military Might
WASHINGTON — President Trump said on Monday that he was looking into staging a display of American military might in a Fourth of July parade down Pennsylvania Avenue.
In remarks during a meeting with President Emmanuel Macron of France at the United Nations, Mr. Trump said he got the idea after watching the Bastille Day parade in Paris with Mr. Macron in July. During the parade, he could be seen gesticulating and whispering to Mr. Macron at the elaborate display of tanks, soldiers on horseback and military jets flying overhead.
“I came back and one of my early calls were, I think we are going to have to start looking at that ourselves,” the president told Mr. Macron. “We are actually thinking about Fourth of July, Pennsylvania Avenue, having a really great parade to show our military strength.”

WNU Editor: I have seen my share of military parades in Moscow .... exciting at the beginning .... but now as I grow older .... a nuisance. But I will admit that I am a minority on this issue .... the mass majority of Russians love them. As for a military parade down Pennsylvania Avenue .... I suspect that opinion will be the same .... most would favor such a display.

Please no. I love the US, but they are already involved in so many conflicts, the last thing they need is bolstering their military ego - creating even more hawks. And if the US does a military parade, the Russians and Chinese want bigger parades, and we'll have even more of an arms race. Also, I'm sure Trump is thinking about the money here - the military parade US style will have tons of commercials etc it will be like the super bowl, only a 4th of July "America, f*ck yeah" kind of theme with people getting all gitty about weapons, big missiles and lose talk about turning country xyz into a parking space. Politicians, being malleable, will exploit and go worth this theme and be more hawkish etc etc it has bad bad idea written all over it. We need less cowboys and more thinkers. We need less missile/penis size comparison and more outreach - especially to Russia and China. When Russia has these parades its to boost their ego, to show everyone they are a super power still (at least militarily), and to rekindle in their victory over nazi Germany. I get why the Russians are doing it, they have valid reasons. If Americans do it, it will be exploited by advertisers, the military industrial complex and politicians alike. Do not do it.
